Tony Slothower is Hobby Stock King of the Hill
 by Dale Leech

On the Bank of Tescott night, Jamie Rice of the Lott Implement IMCA Sport Compacts didn't win a race, but came away the big winner in the NASCAR weekend drawing.  91 cars in the 5 IMCA classes took to the track on the last Saturday of August and put on a great show.

The King of the Hill competition for the Coors Lite IMCA Hobby Stocks featured 20 drivers pushing their cars to the limit, vying for the prize.  Winners of the 1st round were Ryan Roschewski, Lee Horky, Tony Slothower, Mark Normandin, Dennis Berry, Duane McAnarney, GW Fuller, Allen Thornton, Mike Traskowsky and Kevin Lilley.  In the 2nd round it was Roschewski over Horky, Normandin over Berry, Fuller over McAnarney, and Traskowsky over Thornton, while Slothower drew a Bye.  In the next round Roschewski beat Normandin, Traskowsky beat Fuller, and Slothower beat Normandin.  In the Finals, current points leader Slothower lined up against
Traskowsky for the race for the big trophy.  Traskowsky jumped to an early lead on the outside groove on the first lap but at the beginning of the second crossed to the low line.  Slothwer took advantage of that move and crossed over to the outside, gained the lead and took the checkered flag to become the Hobby Stock King of the Hill.

In the IMCA Sport Compacts, Trisch Claman took an early lead out of her outside pole position.  Claman held the lead through 2 laps and 2 caution restarts but lost it to Dayton Wollenberg after being rearended by 3 different cars coming out of turn 3 of the next lap.  Wollenberg then held off other challengers, principally Cody Johnson and Mark Colton for the remaining 13 laps and came away the winner of the feature, his first of the year, and 2nd overall.  Winners of the Heat races were Claman and Andrue Halpain.

With an extra $750 added to the purse, the T&R Dirt Construction IMCA Sportsman Modifieds took to the track where the starting positions were determined by a Draw/Redraw procedure.  The lucky winners of the inside positions on the 1st and 2nd rows were points leaders Tyler Frye and Tyler Sutton.  In a race that eventually had 6 caution restarts, Tyler Frye took to the lead and was followed closely by Tyler Sutton.  With all of the restarts, Frye wasn't able to build a big lead.  Sutton twice got close but couldn't gain a passing advantage.  Frye and Sutton finished 1st and 2nd. This was Frye's 6th win of the season and 26th overall.  Ryan Grit won his 2nd B
Feature of the Season, while Sutton, Shaylon Holloway, Tracy Holloway, and Kurtis Pihl won the Heat races.

For the Casey's General Store IMCA Modifieds, the early leader Geoff Jermark went to the back early after causing a caution.  Jeff Welsh took advantage to then gain the lead out of the restart.  However, within 2 laps, Brian Knoell passed Jeff Welsh and then held him off for the remainder of the 13 laps, garnering his 1st win of the season and 2nd overall.  In this race, Danny Morrison Jr. who started at the back of the pack passed Corey Lagroon with 2 laps remaining.  Both finished at the middle of the pack, but both came into the night tied for the lead in the points standings.  With the finish, Morrison Jr. gained a 1 point advantage over Lagroon who has held the lead for several weeks.  The Heat race winners were Knoell, Gary Clements, and Joe Cleveland.

With their class sponsor on hand as the corporate sponsor of the evening, the Bank of Tescott IMCA Stock cars took to the track for their Feature race.  Tony Steenson took an early lead from his outside pole position.  Steenson then held off Terry Franz and Jason Caldwell for several laps before Jared Remus moved into a challenging position.  On the backstretch with 7 laps remaining, Remus was able to pass Steenson and then proceeded to build a large lead.  Remus took the checkered flag with the closest challenger being 15 car lengths behind.  This was Remus' 2nd Feature win of the season and 4th overall.  The Heat races were won by Steenson and Dustin Newlin.

In the Coors Lite IMCA Hobby Stock Feature, Dennis Berry and Austin Carter battled out of the front row positions for the lead.  Berry then retired for the night with mechanical issues.  Then the 2nd row starters, Duane McAnarney and Ron Rous worked on Carter.  Both passed Carter with McAnarney taking the lead.  McAnarney held off Rous for several laps but gave up the lead with 7 laps to go.  Rous then held the lead and took the checkered flag, his 1st of the season and 2nd overall.  The winners of the Heat races were McAnarney, Rous, and Berry.

Next Saturday, all six car classes will line up for competition at the Minneapolis Raceway on Labor Day weekend.  The Pit Gates will open at 4pm followed by the Grandstands at 5pm.  Hot Laps will begin at 6pm with the first green flag racing at 7pm.
