THUNDER HILL READIES FOR BIG 2010 SEASON

After a short season and a long winter, the new ownership of Thunder Hill Speedway is preparing to make 2010 the biggest and best year in the track’s 16 year history.  Promoter Mike Conkwright says, “It’s been a lot of work, both on the facility itself and on the schedule, but we think the fans, racers, and sponsors will see the benefits that we do when the year gets going.  Our big priority was to put Thunder Hill back on the racing map in the Midwest, and I think we’re set to do it this year.”

The core of the 2010 racing program will be the IMCA sanctioning for the weekly racing series, which begins on April 3 and runs through October 2.  IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods, and Hobby Stocks will thrill the crowds every week.  However, fans of special events will find plenty of reasons to make the trip to Mayetta as well.

Late Model fans will find that the ground pounders have returned in a big way in 2010, as both the MLRA Late Models and the NCRA Late Models will visit the high banks for a total of four events.  Both series have been scheduled there, but never in the same year.  The Lucas Oil MLRA Series will stop in for a one-night race on Saturday, May 22, and will decide their championship at the return of the popular “Thunder on the Hill” two-day show on October 8th and 9th.  The area’s other major Late Model series, the O’Reilly NCRA Late Models, will stop at Thunder Hill on Saturday, July 24, and Saturday, August 21st

Sprint Car fans will also be happy to learn that the NCRA 360 Sprint Cars will visit the Hill for the first time on Saturday, June 5th.  Other special events include five visits by the Midwest Mod Lites (May 8, June 19, July 3, August 28, and September 25), and the traditional Don Garst Memorial (May 29) and the annual Oren Covert Memorial (July 17).  All special events will be accompanied by the four IMCA Weekly Racing classes.  An open practice day will be held on March 27.

The Saturday night events will have the gates opening at 4:00 PM, with the driver’s meeting at 6:15, hot laps at 6:30, and races at 7 PM.  Pit passes will be $25.00.  Tickets for regular weekly races will be $10 for adults, seniors 65 and over $8.00, kids 6-12 $5.00, and kids 5 and under free.  Prices for special events vary.
