Claxton Returning To Grand National In 2010
Four time Grand National Champion Gene Claxton is returning to the Grand National class to compete in the Border War. On Friday nights he will be found behind the wheel of the #98 Grand National at Lakeside Speedway. On Saturday nights he will compete at I-35 Speedway in the Grand National and Sport Mod (familiar #42) classes. Claxton was the Lakeside Grand National Champion in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Gene began racing in 1966 at Riverside Stadium when his father vouched for the underage driver. Claxton’s first win came on August 22, 1975 at Lakeside Speedway. After that first feature the door was wide open for Claxton. Since that day he has collected 31 championships and over 320 plus wins. His best season was 1983 when he collected 35 feature wins in during that campaign.
Young veteran driver, Brad Dibben, has stated he looks forward to the challenge of Gene returning to the class. When he last raced against Gene he said Gene ran off left him on the racetrack, now with Gene’s return Brad can gauge how far he (Dibben) has come since 2006.
Gene is a racing Grandfather. He and Wilma have four daughters and ten grandchildren. So come on out and watch a living legend compete in the 2010 Grand National Border War at Lakeside and I-35 Speedways.
