Reed Bros. Racing Photos Time Machine: Joe Wallace Makes It Look Easy In '75

Joe Wallace took the 20-lap Stock Car feature at the Mid-America Fairgrounds last weekend before a crowd estimated at just over 600.

Wallace took the lead on the third lap and was never challenged.

The real battle was for second and third place. That battle was decided on the last lap when Mike Dibben passed Jim Still for the spot. Still won the first heat, with John Nitsch capturing the second heat. Wallace nabbed the third heat and the trophy dash to sweep the program of racing.

Fred Whisler Tames I-70 Speedway

A capacity crowd of 8,112 at I-70 Speedway saw Terry Bivins of Shawnee Mission, Kansas lead the 24 car field of Late Models in his 1972 Chevelle to what looked like an easy victory in the Firecracker 100, Only to fall out in the 93rd lap with mechanical difficulties.

Fred Whisler took the checkered flag as the victor in his orange Mustang, Whisler won over Dave Wall, Don Conner, Dave Goldsberry and Bill Crane.

Bivins set a new one lap record in qualifications when he sped around the track in 18.69 seconds to eclipse the old mark which was set on july 31,1971 by Dick Trickle of Wisconsin at 18.87.

Ken Weld Earns Easy Win In Topeka 1965

Ken Weld started in the sixth position in the feature and moved up right behind pole starter Ken Williams by the third lap.

Weld made a bid for the front position on every turn for the front spot for two laps before finally overtaking Williams for the first time this year.

Weld went on to easily win on the newly graded half mile track at the Mid-American Fairgrounds track Friday night.

Williams, Bud Marsh and Art Dshinger won heats with Thad Dosher taking the B feature.The Weld's brought four cars from Kansas City to challenge Williams. Jerry Weld ran into trouble in the first heat race and was out the rest of the night. Gordon Woolley finished sixth in the B feature and J.L Cooper wound up eighth in the feature in the other two Weld cars.
