I understand about packing the track but if you would take the time to notice,,, I never mentioned that,,,,I agree they should be worn when on the track,,,,

There is no rule requireing us to wear a helmet when staged,,, I do have a clue and there is no need to throw insults or to try and stir it up,,,, It is a reasonalble request,,,, Most of us could get the helmet on when they give the one lap to go sign,,, with the trophy presentations and removing cars,, there is time but when you add the hans,,, it might get tight,,..

To answer the black flag and communication issues:

All the track radios were changed for NHRA Nationals. The track tried to fix them back the way the way they were. The drivers who could hear me last Saturday had to know I was having some trouble. We were sharing radios and could not always hear each other. I was sending the wrong driver off the track during a heat race for a black flag. The track has been working on the radios since Saturday and will have this corrected.

Just wanted to say sorry to all the driver who heard me mess up several times Saturday. We were sharing radios not always hearing each other and just trying to get through the night together. I was sometimes on both radios blocking all channels.

Thank you to all for the patience last Saturday.

I never had an issue Sat!!! OR any other night for that matter that was not self inflicted :) bad batteries and the first time not knowing you all where on a different freq. I think you guys do a great job,,,,,

The suggestions made where to add to an already good system,,, If your the one on the racecievers,,, you do a wonderful job and thank you,,, the suggestions made where to take it even further... This post had NOTHING to do with a black flag or whatever...

One concern I have heard over and over is the possiblity of too much chatter on them,,, Lakeside has begun to do a test during yellows so drivers can make sure they are working while waiting on the grid and also a final call is done on them,,,, so far so good,,, I think the way your doing things is fine but maybe these things we are talking about would add to it,,, maybe not,,, that is why I asked, :)

I think these things are great and help with a lot of issues,,,,and they do a great job now with them, I do have a couple of suggestions to make them better for us and please chime in if you have any other ideas.

1. yellows,,, Just call yellow flag and not yellow drivers,,, yellow yellow yellow and a location such as 2 low ,,

2. Let us know when the line up is correct so we can close up before we come through 2 with the yellow on,, it gets shut off and we scamble to close up and lots of things happen,,, After calling the cars,,, end with Line up is correct, we can then close up the spaces we are leaving for safty and line up changes.

3. It was hot sat... Is there a way for the grid lady,,, or maybe the racievers to say,,,5 laps left so that we could leave our helmets off and not swelter in the cars for 30 + minutes?? Getting old and thats hard on us old fat guys :)

Thanks

Very good ideas Watcher, but the one about taking helmuts off during long yellows and such will be a no-go unless the track wants to assume responsibility for you and possible injuries with your helmut off. A rock could be tossed up, a chunk of mud, another driver just gets stupid and wrecks you (seen that happen more than once during a yellow). It's all about insurancee and liability.

Your other ideas seem to be very good ones!!!

Race on.

Going back to my original post about your ideas Watcher! They are very good ideas and should be seriously considered by all. Since you are wearing a three layer suit, Nomax, a Hans device topped off with your helmet, keep that helmet off for as long as you can. Posting on here gets some attention, but maybe you could talk with the track officials this coming Saturday night and push the subject further or at least get an answer from them about when your helmet must be on. I get what you are saying and you all that are stagged just need an official to tell you when to get your gear back on. I assume you have a Hans with the quick pull tabs? I do, and I STILL have trouble getting the helmet on and off. My pit crew helps me with getting hooked up when heading out of the pits.

Please excuse my being a bit short on one of my previous posts. It was a bad hair day. I don't have much hair anymore and that makes it even worse. I did not mean to insult you in any way.

You have some very good ideas and that needs to be the focus. My apologies once again!

Race on.

;)
