I think these things are great and help with a lot of issues,,,,and they do a great job now with them, I do have a couple of suggestions to make them better for us and please chime in if you have any other ideas.

1. yellows,,, Just call yellow flag and not yellow drivers,,, yellow yellow yellow and a location such as 2 low ,,

2. Let us know when the line up is correct so we can close up before we come through 2 with the yellow on,, it gets shut off and we scamble to close up and lots of things happen,,, After calling the cars,,, end with Line up is correct, we can then close up the spaces we are leaving for safty and line up changes.

3. It was hot sat... Is there a way for the grid lady,,, or maybe the racievers to say,,,5 laps left so that we could leave our helmets off and not swelter in the cars for 30 + minutes?? Getting old and thats hard on us old fat guys :)

Thanks

Very good ideas Watcher, but the one about taking helmuts off during long yellows and such will be a no-go unless the track wants to assume responsibility for you and possible injuries with your helmut off. A rock could be tossed up, a chunk of mud, another driver just gets stupid and wrecks you (seen that happen more than once during a yellow). It's all about insurancee and liability.

Your other ideas seem to be very good ones!!!

Race on.

I believe he is talking about leaving the helmets off in staging! Not on the track.

That is the racers option, at least at the tracks I have been to and raced. You just have to have the helmuts and other safety devices on before entering the track.

Race on.

Adding to my post, if you are "static" i.e., not moving, then not having a helmut on is cool (REALLY!!!). This can be in the stagging area and also when a RED FLAG is thrown on the track, and all cars are stopped. You just cannot exit your car during these times. My understanding of the rules anyway. Not all inclusive.

Race on.

Yes I am confused but to clarify,,, I was talking about when we are in the staging area,,,Racin78p. it shows el paso Tx as your location,,,,, When we stage here in Topeka we are about 100 feet from the track surface.. So I dont think anything is an issue,,,, It is what adds to the issue,,, we cannot see the progress of the race to decide when to helmet up,,,,

Some of us wear hans so it takes a couple seconds longer to get situated,,, Next year, a required item at the track,

I am also one of the people that wear nomex underwear as well as the 3 layer suit,,, so it gets hot real quick,,, I dont have a pit crew to bring me one of those real nice fans they use at INDY to keep the drivers cooled off :(

Last time I ran there last year, you HAD to have your helmet on and it had to be the DRIVER of the car for the races. If that has changed then bad on Thunder Hill. One of my pit crew LOVED to PACK the track,... He was bumbed to know he could not pack the track, it had to be me.

Once again, it is an insurance issue, not a racers or tracks option.

Race on.

I am here in El Paso for another three months, then coming home. I race at Thunder Hill, Heartland and Lakeside. I understand the rules of when you must wear your helmet and when not. I also wear a Hans device, and it takes me a bit to get it off and out of the car. So I understand what you are saying.

As a note, I have a ton of racing laps in the Kansas and surrounding states of racing experience.

Get a clue. Sorry, but not in the mood to banter about safety devices, track rules and when a helmet MUST be worn or not. It is about SAFETY DUDE!!! In the stagging lanes, race track or on the freakin' trailer.

Race on.
