Kansas City, KS – Fans it usually doesn’t happen at most race tracks until the end of the season, but this Friday night May 1st Lakeside Speedway, USMTS Modifieds and the USRA Iron Man Series will give the fans something special!

On Friday night fans will be treated to a $3,000 to win USMTS Modified Race and 2 USRA Iron Man Series Specials that will pay the Stock Winner $1,000 and the B Mod Winner $750! It’s the recipe for pure excitement from start to finish.

Lakeside Speedway has turned over the reigns to Don and Donna Marrs and so far this season is going well. Mother Nature has thrown the track prep crew a few curve balls, but last Sunday night they hit it right and when it’s right Lakeside Speedway is one bad fast track.

When the USMTS Visited Last…

The last time the USMTS stopped in at Lakeside Speedway it was an epic battle between 2 great racers; Terry Phillips and Rodney Sanders.

Phillips had to change power plants between the heat and the feature and in the end it paid big dividends.

Sanders ran to the early lead and a comfortable one at that. A caution would bunch the field up and Phillips used the restart to move by Jeremy Payne into 2nd and from there he would run down the leader, Sanders.

On lap 10 Phillips roared by Sanders and held him in check the rest of the 25 laps in route to his 3rd USMTS Modified win at Lakeside Speedway.

Several Lakeside Speedway regulars enjoyed some success. Nic Bidinger, last year’s track champ, finished the highest in 4th. A total of 24 cars started and 8 of those 24 were Lakeside Regulars.

The total number of cars entered for the last USMTS race at Lakeside Speedway was 32.

USMTS Race Winners
Jeremy Payne (3)
Terry Phillips (3)
Rodney Sanders (2)
Ryan Gustin
Nic Bidinger
Matt Dotson

Who will be ready to add their name to this list???

Do Any Of The Locals Have A Chance???

One of the draws of the traveling series coming into Lakeside Speedway is the odds of a local racer winning the feature! It doesn’t happen very often. The USMTS drivers are considered to be the best of the best in Outlaw Modified racing. They all race for a living and most of them will do anything to put food on the table, so to say! When the locals line up against them they are facing long odds, but it can be done. Ask Nic Bidinger.

Bidinger is one of the locals that achieved the ultimate dream, a victory. Bidinger shouldn’t really be considered a long shot. He had put together a few top 10 runs with the USMTS prior to getting his win. Two straight championships and a top 5 finish in USRA National Points should prove that he is no slouch.

Lakeside Speedway has always taken pride in their Modified drivers. Friday night racers like Bidinger, Darron Fuqua, Kerry Davis, Tim Karrick, Lance Town, Tim Setzer and a host of others will be taking their best shot at a top notch finish.

In the long run Lakeside regulars have a chance. They just have to be on their A Game and ready to go!

What Region Of USMTS Will We See Friday Night?

Most of the USMTS racers will race in almost all of the regions that the series has to offer. The ultimate goal for most racers is to win the USMTS Championship and make the Hunt. Each of these two things go hand in hand.

The USMTS MSD Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports has celebrated a couple of races and the top 10 in points looks like this…
1 Ryan Gustin 194
2 Stormy Scott 190
3 Dereck Ramirez 179
4 Keith Foss 168
5 Cade Dillard 161
6 Rodney Sanders 154
7 Casey Arneson 151
8 Austin Arneson 148
9 Kelly Shryock 146
9 Austin Siebert 146

USMTS Driver To Watch This Friday Night…

Tim Setzer. Reed Bro. Racing Photos

Tim Setzer. Reed Bro. Racing Photos

Tim Setzer #51, Archie, MO.

Setzer got off to a slow start this season. Took the 2nd race of the season off but since then has been on fire. It could be safe to say that Setzer is one lapped car away from winning the last 2 USRA Modified Features at Lakeside Speedway. Last week Setzer flexed his muscle and wasn’t about to give that feature away. Setzer will be facing stiff competition on Friday night, but I would have to say he has just as good of chance of anyone else for getting into victory lane. Keep your eyes on #51 this Friday night.

USRA Holley Iron Man Stock Car Outlook…

This Friday night’s USRA Iron Man Series Stock Car race will be absolutely NUTS!

You heard me right I said Nuts! The feature winner will take home $1,000.00 for their winning effort. This class has been providing great, close racing action for 1/3 of this amount. What in the heck is going to happen when you lay down the big money? It’s going to get crazy!

Fans will be coming to watch the USMTS Modifieds but I believe that this class might put on just as good a show as the premier division.

The drivers that follow this series will come into Lakeside looking to maintain or build up their current points total. As in the Modified ranks, the locals in the Stock Car division will be looking to make a splash too. Several of the local drivers at Lakeside Speedway also rank in the top half of the USRA Iron Man Series Points.

Top 10 USRA Holley Iron Man Stock Car Series Points
Rank No. Driver Starts Wins Top 5’s Top 10’s Points
1 2j Steve Jackson 2 1 1 2 181

8 14 Todd Staley 2 1 1 145
9 33 Kevin Donlan 2 138
10 222 Jake Newman 2 134

What A Gesture…

The President of the USRA & USMTS, Todd Staley, is also a competitor in the ranks of USRA Stock Cars. Just last Friday night he showed up and raced at Lakeside Speedway for their weekly event. On Sunday night, one of Lakeside’s hottest racers in the division, Kevin Anderson (who had won 3 straight races) totaled his car in a bad wreck on the front stretch. Wanting to provide the most cars and best possible racing for his series, Staley offered up a car for Anderson to use. Whether or not Anderson takes him up on his offer, it says a lot for Staley and his passion for the sport for just making the offer.

USRA Holley Iron Man Stock Car Driver To Watch…

Sean Foster. Reed Bro. Racing Photos

Sean Foster. Reed Bro. Racing Photos

Sean Foster #55, Smithville, MO.

Foster has had some strong runs this season at Lakeside Speedway. Foster is familiar with the confines of Lakeside Speedway and can wheel a car to the front when needed. He has been close this year but has yet to knock down the door. At Lakeside Speedway in 2015 Foster is currently sitting 4th in points and he is also 7th in the Iron Man Series. Competition does not scare this driver and he looks forward to racing with the best of the best. With all of that in mind Foster could be running up front and looking to pocket $1,000 on Friday night.

USRA Holley Iron Man B Mod Outlook…

It can be said over and over again. This event is a great show from top to bottom. The features for the support classes could be just as good as the USMTS Modifieds.

The USRA B Mod division has been growing in leaps and bounds. More and more competitors are signing up to race in this division on an annual basis.

Nearly 80 total USRA B Mod drivers have battled it out in 5 USRA Holley Iron Man Series races in 2015. Each of these drivers is looking for his or her best 20 finishes. As the points break down today there are 6 area racers in the top 10 in points. A fact that many of the best B Mod racers are in our own back yard.

Last year’s USRA National Champion in the USRA B Mod division is a weekly racer at Lakeside Speedway, Chad Clancy.

Andy Bryant comes in with the points lead, but Randal Schiffelbein Jr., Dakota Foster, Ethan Isaacs, Logan Martin and Tyler Kidwell are in the points battle up at he front of the field. It’s still early in the season, but it’s a good start.

Top 10 Holley Iron Man B Mod Standing

9 7 Karla Lampe 5 236
10 54 Tyler Kidwell 4 1 1 234

This Friday night’s feature could see a stellar field. Brad Smith last year’s winner is coming into Friday night having won the last 2 features at Lakeside Speedway. Lakeside regulars like Gene Claxton, Nick Newton, Randal Schiffelbein Jr., Ed Noll, Shadren Turner, Luke Nieman, Matt Pugh and a host of non regulars should battle to the wire to give the fans of Lakeside Speedway another great feature.

USRA Holley Iron Man B Mod Driver To Watch…

Dustin Gilbert. Reed Bro. Racing Photos

Dustin Gilbert. Reed Bro. Racing Photos

Dustin Gilbert #2, Lawrence, KS.

If we are going to go for a true underdog then we are going with Dustin Gilbert in the B Mod division. Gilbert is coming off a race last Friday night where he led some laps but he just couldn’t close it out. Gilbert is getting better and better each time he gets behind the wheel of his B Mod. That’s one of the things that drivers look for, to improve. In this division a driver has to continue to get better race after race. If they don’t the competition will eat them alive. The B Mod division is one of the toughest race divisions in the U.S. If Gilbert can handle the pressure look for him to be in the top 5 on Friday night.

Friday Night’s Info For Getting In…
