From a track that is having great car counts, great fan counts and great racing, Thunder Hill Speedway is looking to give the fans a big reward for their support in 2015.

What’s Coming Up This Saturday Night…

Saturday night, August 22nd, the action returns to Thunder Hill Speedway for the Belleville Motorsports Clash On The Hill. This week 4 IMCA classes will be back in action; BSB IMCA Manufacturing Modifieds, Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock Cars, Bad Boyz Bail Bonds IMCA Northern Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks!

The spectator and pit gates will open at 5 p.m., drivers meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the racing starts shortly after. Adult ticket price is $5.00, kids 12 and under are FREE, adult pit price is $25.00 and kids 12 and under in the pits are $10.00.

Everyone in attendance last Saturday night witnessed the continuation of more great racing action. Tom Charles, the timeless wonder in the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds, won his 1st feature in impressive fashion. Last year’s champ in the Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock Cars, Marvin Griffith Jr., regained his form and ran away with his 1st win of the season. Bryan Rigsby has been to Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane before this season but this time it was in the Bad Boyz Bail Bonds IMCA Sport Mods. The only repeat winner of the night was Nicholas Ronnebaum as he picked off a win in the Midwest Vending IMCA Hobby Stocks. In the Casey’s General Store IMCA Sport Compacts Scott Spellmeier took home a close win over Austin Umscheid.

Setting Up This Week’s Championship Story Lines…

BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds

A few weeks back Tom Charles rolled to a runner-up finish and he claimed that he needed to gain more stamina. Charles, the longtime Modified racer, must have found the Fountain of Youth! Charles roared to an impressive win last year. It was a special night for Charles as he got the win on the birthday of one of his biggest sponsors Bill Buttrick.

Even with the win Charles still trails in the points behind Steven Bowers Jr. Charles is 41 points back of the leader, Bowers.

Kyle Olberding has been sitting out for the last few races trying to get things back together. Last Saturday night it looked as if Olberding hasn’t missed a beat as he went from 10th to 4th in the A Main.

For another race night this season the Modified car count was over 20 plus cars. So far this season the Modified division has not dipped below 20 all season.

After last Saturday night there are now 5 different winners that have driven into Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane.

Bobby Bills, of Bills Built Race Cars, was the hard charger in the top 10 last week. Bills went from 15th to 8th in the A Main.

Modified points leader, Steven Bowers Jr., will have his car on display before the races on Saturday night. Bowers will also have t-shirts, hero cards and autographs for the fans that arrive early.

A former Thunder Hill Speedway Modified Champion, Kerry Davis, will be making a return to the track this weekend as he will be driving a backup car for Steven Bowers.

Anthony Tanner. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Anthony Tanner #7, Topeka, KS.

Anthony Tanner is a fast race car driver. Unfortunately for Tanner he also has some of the worst luck a driver can have. Each week that Tanner looks like he is going to have a great race, something horrible happens. Last week Tanner finally put a full 20 laps in and he produced a top 5 finish. Keep an eye on Tanner this week. Last week’s race should have shown everyone that Tanner really does have what it takes to run up front. He just needs to shake the gremlins. After last week’s run maybe he has done that and this could be his week.

Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock Cars

2015 has been a long hard season for Marvin Griffith Jr. He has had mechanical issues, black flag issues and bad decisions have kept Griffith from having a repeat of 2014. Last Saturday night Griffith showed the fans that he has what it takes to win races and be a competitor. It was a strong run for Griffith and it could provide him a shot in the arm for the final 2 races of the season.

A total of 6 different drivers have won features this season in the IMCA Stock Cars.

The top 3 drivers in the feature all started outside of the first two rows. Once again unbelievable action is what best describes the IMCA Stock Car action.

The Stock Cars have the overall tightest points race of any class at Thunder Hill Speedway. Dominic Thyfault is the leader by just 15 points, Greg Deters, Brandon Conkwright and Mat Stallbaumer are a total of 24 points back. That means with two races left it’s make or break time.

Another IMCA Modified Feature winner, Josh Everhart, debuted a Stock Car last week. It didn’t go as well as he would have liked it to. Everhart dropped out of the feature early and finished 18th.

Kyle Stallbaumer #10, Topeka, KS.

It only is a matter of time before Kyle Stallbaumer puts it all together and gets his 1st win in the Stock Car division. He has a good car, he has the talent and now he just needs to get past the competition. Stallbaumer is not running a Modified this year, so he has more time to concentrate just on the Stock Car. Last week he put together a 4th place finish. He has finished up front before but this could be just what he needs to get the job done this week. Keep an eye on the #10 and see what happens.

Bad Boyz Bail Bonds IMCA N. Sport Mods

For the 2nd straight week it was a new driver getting into Pit Pass Liquor Victory lane last week. Bryan Rigsby held off the masses and logged his 1st win. Not only did Rigsby get the win, he closed the gap for the points title to 23 behind Tyler Frye.

Tyler Frye finished 5th in the A Main. Frye was sent to the back for jumping the start early in the main event. After restarting in 23rd he put on a march to get up to the 5th spot.

Gary Holthaus had a special fan in the crowd last Saturday night. Gary’s father, Edwin Holthaus, was in the crowd celebrating his 90th birthday with the fans of Thunder Hill Speedway.

The IMCA N. Sport Mods were 1 car shy of being a full field of 24 last week. This class has been the most popular class of 2015. Several times they have had B Features or started 26 to 27 during the main events.

Through August 13th, Tyler Frye is still leading the National Point Standings in the IMCA Northern Sport Mods.

Tracey Schaefer. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Tracey Schaefer #11, Topeka, KS.

Tracey Schaefer is a 2nd generation driver that is hunger for a win. Week after week Schaefer puts in the work at the shop, tinkers with his setups and now is ready to go. After a couple of lack luster races, look for Schaefer to rebound this week. He put together a strong race last week going from 19th to 7th. This is the reason he is our driver to watch.

Midwest Vending IMCA Hobby Stocks

Nicholas Ronnebaum took home a hard fought win a week ago. It was the 2nd win on the season for Ronnebaum. He becomes 1 of only 3 drivers to win more than 1 feature on the year.

The points race doesn’t get any tighter at the top of the standings than in the Hobby Stock ranks. Tyler Garst is just 4 points ahead of Tommy Fose with just 2 races left, but if you look back to 3rd Nicholas Ronnebaum is 14 points back and Dalton Ronnebaum is just 24 points out. Down the stretch is a 4 horse race.

Tyler Garst maintained the points lead as he raced from 8th to 2nd in the main event last week.

Ryan Sutter has only 2 races left to win his 1st feature of the season. In every race Sutter has competed in this season he has been inside the top 5 in every single race. Mr. Consistent.

The Hobby Stock division has had a total of 7 different winners this season. This is the most of any division at Thunder Hill Speedway in 2015.

Dalton Blow. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Dalton Blow #00, Onaga, KS.

Dalton Blow has had some strong efforts this year. All you have to do is look to last week’s race where Blow went from 14th to 7th in the feature. Busting on to the scene a few week’s back, Blow has been on a bit of a role as he works out the kinks of a new car. Keep an eye on him this week as he will look to continue moving forward in the field. This week’s race could be his best of the season.
