ULMA Late Models Storm Into Lakeside Speedway This Friday Night

Kansas City, KS – Just when you think it’s back to normal at Lakeside Speedway, you would be wrong! A few weeks ago it was the MLRA Late Models, last week it was the Tom Karrick Memorial and this week the ULMA Late Models will make their first appearance at Lakeside Speedway. What could be better than Late Models on top of the USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B Mods and Grand Nationals? Nothing. This will be one of those shows you have to ink in on your schedule. John Melloway leads the ULMA standings at this point and time, a total of 51 different drivers have raced for the ULMA and more importantly this Friday night at Lakeside Speedway will pay $1,000 to win and $100 to start. It’s setting up to be a can’t miss show.

Last Week’s Recap…
Last week’s Tom Karrick Memorial produced a couple of 1st time winners this season at Lakeside. Matt Dotson worked his way around Tim Karrick early in the $1500 to win Modified Feature and from there he was well on his way to win #1 on the season. Nick Newton not only pulled off a tight victory in the USRA B Mods (his 1st win of the season in the division), Newton also won the Grand National feature to begin the night. Brett Heeter moved 1 step closer to nailing down his 3rd straight USRA Stock Car Track Championship as he ran away with win #8 on the year.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

Last week it was a dominating performance for a 1st time winner, Matt Dotson. Dotson got around Tim Karrick and raced off to his 1st win of the season. It was a good night to pick up the win for Dotson. Thanks to the Karrick Family Dotson pocketed $1,500 for the win.

Dotson becomes the 11th different feature winner on the season in the USRA Modified division this season.

Kerry Davis continues to lead the points with 4 points races left on the season. Tim Karrick is currently 2nd with 115 points to make up.

The Hard Charger from last week was Darron Fuqua. Fuqua started 11th in the main event and climbed all the way up to 5th at the finish.

The USRA Modified National Leader in the point standings, Terry Schultz, raced another night at Lakeside Speedway last week without getting to victory lane. Schultz could gain some valuable points if he could end up in victory lane.

Speaking of National Points, Lakeside regulars, Tim Karrick and Darron Fuqua still remain in the top 15.

59 is now the number of competitors that have racked up points in the Modified division this season.

Kerry Davis #68, Parkville, MO.

It’s a strecth picking Davis as the driver to watch this Saturday night. Davis has pulled down 7 wins and numerous top 5s. This has put him at the top of the point standings. A great season for sure, but lately Davis hasn’t been held out of victory lane for a few weeks. With 4 races left there is no driver ready to end the season than Davis and if he could pull off a few more wins it would be spectacular. Keep an eye on him this week, we have a feeling he just might recover that winning feeling.

USRA Stock Cars…

Brett Heeter is putting his stamp on the 2015 season. The reigning 2x champ has rolled to 8 wins this season and seems to have an insurmountable lead in the points with 4 points races left. By Lakeside’s standards its been a huge season and if he does close out his 3rd championship in a row, it will mark him down as one of the greats to ever have raced at Lakeside Speedway.

Last week John O’Neal Jr. and Kevin Anderson battled with Heeter throughout last week’s feature. O’Neal had some problems and pulled off, Anderson suffered some mechanical issues and faded late. Once again it was another great race in the USRA Stock Cars.

Tom Fogarty and Steve Herrick had a couple of good runs last week. Fogarty was the ‘Hard Charger’ going from 18th to 6th. Herrick started 15th and finished 5th. Herrick’s run was deceiving since he was involved in an early yellow and had to go back to the rear of the field and then marched up to 5th.

The USRA Stock Car National Standings sees Brett Heeter in the 4th position at this time.

Jack Newman struggled all night long with problems but got them figured out by the feature, where Newman finished 3rd.

49 is the number of different drivers that have raced in the USRA Stock Car division at Lakeside Speedway this season.

A total of 6 different winners have raced to victory lane at Lakeside Speedway in 2015.

Chad Walker #04, Kansas City, KS.

Chad Walker come into the 2015 season with a nice looking race car. Over the course of the season Walker has turned into a very nice Stock Car driver. Last week was a perfect example of that statement. Walker moved from 8th to 2nd in the feature and pressured the winner, Heeter, down the stretch. It showed the Walker has arrived. He has a car that can run up front and he is a driver that can make things happen. After watching him last week there isn’t another driver that should be the Driver to Watch this Friday night!

USRA B Mods…

Nick Newton is no stranger to victory lane in the USRA B Mod division. Over the last few years Newton always lands in victory lane a few times a year. It’s been a long season in the B Mods for Newton, but last week he earned a hard fought victory for his 1st win of the season. Newton had the lead, lost the lead to Luke Nieman and then fought back to win the race on the last lap. It was his 2nd win on the night which made the win even more special to Newton.

Luke Nieman finished a close 2nd to Newton last week. As he grabbed the lead from Newton it looked as if Nieman was going to get his 2nd win of the season. It didn’t happen and coming so close might provide more fuel to Nieman’s desire to get win #2.

The young ace from St. Joe, Shadren Turner, was the ‘Hard Charger’ award winner last week. Turner started way back in 18th and by the end of the night found himself in 4th. A great run for Turner and it was a great run for fans to watch.

Another youngster, Andy Bryant, still holds a slim lead in the USRA National Point standings. Bryant finished with a top 5 last week but he would love to have a few more ‘W’s under his belt.

Ed Noll finished 7th in last week’s feature and he still maintains the lead in the USRA B Mod Points. Noll is involved in one of the closest races at Lakeside. Noll leads Nieman by 50 points with 4 races to go.

Last week saw another first time winner and that makes a total of 11 different winners that have raced to victory lane in 2015 at Lakeside.

81 is still the number of different drivers that have raced in the USRA B Mod division this year.

Shadren Turner #17T, St. Joseph, MO.

Shadren Turner started out this season battling for the top of the point standings. Turner is one of the young guns in the B Mod division at Lakeside Speedway. Over the season he has shown that being young doesn’t mean that he can’t run up front. He has a win and has several top 10 and 5’s to his credit. This season hasn’t been all roses, Turner has struggled at times. After watching him run last week where he went from 18th to 4th, I believe that he is ready to close out 2015 in a strong way. That is what makes him this week’s driver to watch.

Grand Nationals…

Last week’s Grand National Feature started the night off with some excitement as Nick Newton roared to his 3rd win of the season. Newton’s night would get even better with a 2nd Feature win on the night in the B Mods. Newton is proving that he is one of several talented drivers at Lakeside.

Tim Shields has a huge lead in the points and 12 feature wins on the season. Last week it was a tough night and a hard fought 2nd place finish for Shields. After a tap to a competitor after his heat race, Shields was DQed and had to start the feature at the tail end of the field.

Grand National Driver To Watch This Week…

Donnie Brown. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Donnie Brown #26, Lancaster, KS.

Donnie Brown has been running consistent all week long at Lakeside in the Grand National division. Brown is one of the drivers that has the capability to get a race win. As there are only 4 races left this season, Brown’s chances are getting slim. Look for Brown to make a charge down the stretch run. This Friday night could be his night as he is the driver to watch.
