SALINA, Kan. — A cold north breeze wasn’t enough to keep the competitors away as over one hundred race teams filled the pit area for night one of DirtFest 2016.

Jordan Grabouski continued his domination of the Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas on Friday April 1st as he easily won the evening’s feature event in the Long McArthur Ford IMCA Modified division. Tyler Frye come home with a second place finish in his debut in the division at the Speedway after besting Grabouski in the heat race. Corey Burch drove home third with Jason Wolla rounding out the top four. Brian Knoell and Justin Gregg won the B Features while Frye, Steven Bowers Jr., Shane Hiatt, and Burch won the heat races.

The competition in the Coors Light IMCA Stock Car division was no fool as several drivers took the lead with a sometimes 3 wide battle for the win in the 25 lap feature. At the end Kyle Vanover drove past a rim riding Angel Munoz to score the victory. Austin Carter finished third with Nolan Remus in fourth in a race that saw what could have been the most lead changes ever in a feature event with at least the top 5 cars seeing the front at some point. Scot Granzella won the B Feature with Rob Stenvold, Geoff Jermark, and Jason Rogers winning the heat races.

Daniel Gottschalk continued where he left off last season in the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod division, sweeping the events for the night. Zach McKinnon caught on late, but to no avail, finishing second. Nelson Volbrecht was third with Tim Echevarria fourth. Gottschalk and Echevarria won the heat races.

A field of twenty strong Auto House Mod Lites filled the feature event to see Delaware’s James Hill outlast a hard charging Justin Kinderknecht at the finish line. Charlie Brown drove from nineteenth to third while Randy Bryan finished fourth. Bryan and Hill won the heat races.

Fourteenth starting Shannon Anderson picked up the feature win in the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock division over Jesse Vanlaningham, Shay Simoneau, and Roy Armstrong after a late race scuffle resulted in the top two drivers at the time, Brady Bencken and Mike Traskowsky, to the back. Luke Wassom and Simoneau won the heat races.

Tonight is the finale of DirtFest 2016 at the Salina Speedway with racing set to begin at 6PM.
