Lucas Oil MLRA on the road for three straight this weekend

Lucas-MLRA-logoWheatland, Missouri (May 3, 2016) – Action will be in high gear this weekend with the Lucas Oil MLRA racing in Iowa and Missouri. Beginning Thursday, a weekend triple-header is on tap.

Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa fires up as the first venue of the swing. Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa is the host track Friday and Saturday wraps up the swing at Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri.

“These are all three outstanding tracks in our region, and we are fortunate to be working with some top notch race promoters too,” commented MLRA Assistant Series Director Ernie Leftwich. “In past seasons these shows have had huge attendance, and we are looking forward to a great weekend of racing. We’d like to welcome all of the Late Model fans out to visit us!”

This year marks the third ever visit to the Lee County Speedway, and it is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the raciest tracks on the series schedule. The previous two features have been down to the wire all the way to the checkers.

Last season the visit to Davenport Speedway was unfortunately washed out. The series raced there in 2014 and sent the crowd home with their jaw on the ground. Davenport Speedway actually has a quarter-mile track inside of a big half-mile speedway. The Lucas Oil MLRA will utilize the quarter-mile track.

Also on the schedule last season but lost due to rain, is Saturday’s venue, Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri. It’s been many years since the last series race contested at the northeast Missouri oval.

Jason Papich currently leads the way in the series standings with three races complete. Not yet appearing in Andy’s Frozen Custard Victory Lane, Papich has been consistent early on recording two finishes inside of the top five.

Papich has relocated his team to southern Missouri for the season and is traveling from California on race weekends to compete. The 2014 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year runner up has a feel for the upper echelon’s of the sport and is fitting in nicely on the tour this season.

He began his career in 2008 and currently wheels Club 29 Race Cars built by Ronnie Stuckey and Darrell Lanigan. His power is delivered courtesy of Jay Dickens.

Points are tight throughout the top ten, with nearly every spot on the line and able to change this weekend. Tony Jackson Jr and Randy Timms are tied for second just eight markers back of Papich. Completing the top five are Rodney Sanders and Terry Phillips.
