Mayetta, KS – The dreaded ‘R’ word might have dampened everyone’s spirits at Thunder Hill Speedway on opening night, but after last week everyone is ready to continue on after a great race weekend.

This Saturday night May 14th, 2016, the best in IMCA racing in the Midwest will continue at Thunder Hill Speedway for race #2 on the season.

Fans will get to see the regular weekly classes; BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds, Buds Auto Service IMCA Stock Cars, JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mods and Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stocks!

Last Saturday night more than 100 cars packed into the pit area and several fans packed into the grand stands to witness the 1st Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on The Hill. This week it should be a repeat of last week.

What Happened Last Week…
As stated earlier more than 100 racers showed up to compete on night number 1. When it was all said and done the fans left feeling excited and satisfied with what they saw on the track. Jordy Nelson held off a stout field of Modifieds to win the feature event, that included NASCAR great, Kenny Schrader, who was on hand to try his luck at Thunder Hill Speedway. In the Stock Car main event Matt Haid outlasted all the competition to pick up his 1st win of the season. Shawn Harker, once again, proved that he is a force to be reckoned with every time he shows up to Thunder Hill. Last week he scored another win in limited track time. The Hobby Stock race was a barn burner that saw Ryan Sutter hold off Tyler Hinrichs at the line as he won his 1st feature at Thunder Hill.

BSB Manufacturing Modified Notes…
Troy Baumgartner had a strong run on opening night finishing 6th. Baumgartner hung around up front battling all night long until he got shuffled back late in the race.
Position battles were at a premium last Saturday night. Kenny Schrader, Tyler Frye, Darron Fuqua and Jordan Grabouski mixed it up as they moved to the front of the field from their starting spots.
Clay Hale was one of the biggest movers of the main event. Hale started 21st and when the checkers dropped he was in 9th spot.
29 Modifieds were on hand to race last Saturday night.

Modified Driver To Watch This Week…. Tyler Frye #55, Belleville, KS.

The reigning IMCA Northern Sport Mod National Champion has moved up into the Modified division. For most drivers it would be a big learning curve, but when you are as good as Frye you might be on an accelerated course. Last week Frye showed just how tough he is going to be by finishing 3rd in a field full of heavy hitters. As Frye gets more comfortable in his Harris and gets more time competing against the best he will get better each week. Keep an eye on him this week.

Buds Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Notes…
Last week Matt Haid started on the pole and he went on to win the Stock Car Feature. Currently Haid is on a roll. He picked up a win on opening night at HPT and now he has followed it up with an opening night win at Thunder Hill.
Hats off to Anthony Deters for one of his best finishes ever at Thunder Hill Speedway. Deters finished 2nd last week to Haid.
Shaylon Holloway had a great run going before the laps ran out on him. Holloway started 18th and drove all the way up to finish 3rd.
Marvin Griffith Jr., Terry Blessing and Hank Thompson also moved up through the field during last week’s feature.
23 Stock Cars reported for duty last Saturday night.

Stock Car Driver to Watch This Week…. #35, Centralia, KS.

Deters had a strong run last week finishing 2nd. In the past Deters has spent much of his time honing his racing skills. The son of Stock Car driver, Greg Deters, Anthony doesn’t fall far from the tree. Just like his dad he is on the gas 99 percent of the time. After coming out late last year, Deters had some good runs but nothing like the 2nd place finish he had last week. Look for Deters to keep improving. He has a good car and a good motor, now watch as his driving skills start to get better.

JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod Notes…
34 Northern Sport Mods checked in to battle it out. It was the most competitors for any one class.
Bryan Rigsby had a big run last week in the main event. Rigsby started 14th and raced his way to a 4th place finish.
Former track champ, Jeremy Pittsenbarger also had a good night. He started 20th on the grid and by the night’s end he was sitting in 6th place. That’s what I call moving forward!
3’s a crowd. The Stallbaumer parents will have to choose who to root for this season. Currently there are 3 Stallbaumer brothers racing in the division. Luke, Tim and Kyle are all battling it out each week at the Speedway. This could make for some interesting holiday dinner conversation!

Northern Sport Mod Driver To Watch This Week….

Dustin Thulin had to be excited over his 2nd place finish last week. A year ago it seemed that Thulin was plagued at Thunder Hill Speedway. Last year was filled with DNF’s, mechanical problems and anything else that could go wrong. Thulin kept put his notes together and on night 1 this season he put together a runner-up finish. It could be the shot in the arm Thulin needed to get his race program headed in the right direction. He could be a safe bet to be back up front this week.

Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Notes…
It was a tough act to follow for all of the feature events following the Hobby Stock Feature last week. Ryan Sutter edged out Tyler Hinrichs at the stripe for his 1st ever win at Thunder Hill. It was a great way to start off the 2016 season.
Tyler Garst, last year’s champ, had to start in the 6th row but by the end of the feature he was inside the top 5 in 4th.
Rookie, Chris Lierz, had a good outing. He finished as the hard charger working his way by 8 competitors before finishing in 7th.
19 racers battled it out at Thunder Hill Speedway in the Hobby Stock class last Saturday night.

Hobby Stock Driver To Watch This Week….Tyler Hinrichs #25, Americus, KS.

Hinrichs put on the high side hustle to catch up to Ryan Sutter. He just didn’t have what it took to get the pass made. Don’t worry about Hinrichs though. Last season he had multiple wins on the season. He, and everyone at the track, knows he is capable of doing it again this year. Last week’s run just goes to show you that Hinrichs is a force to be reckoned with. Watch him this week and see if he isn’t battling up front again.
