Mayetta, KS – Everyone likes a little excitement when they go to the races!

Saturday night the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on the Hill held it’s fair share of excitement and then some.

The JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod Feature got started as it usually does, a little slowly. One thing that happened early was that Shawn Harker, last week’s feature winner, was called for jumping a start and had to be sent back of the field.

At the front of the field it was Bryce Frakes celebrating one of this best nights ever at Thunder Hill Speedway. Frakes got to the lead and held on to it, but several yellow flags would hinder any chance Frakes would have at building up a lead.

Austin Charles supplied a majority of the pressure to the leader all night long. From his 8th row starting spot Charles made his way quickly up to Frakes and late in the race started to apply a ton of pressure.

Another driver that made his way to the front was Bryan Rigsby. Rigsby sat behind both Frakes and Charles fishing for a line that would take him to the top spot.

A late race yellow would set up a green, green, white, checkered finish. If anyone would have something for Frakes they needed to pull it out once the race went green.

Charles would work to the inside of Frakes on the restart and pulled event with him going into turns 3 and 4. Right behind the top 2 Rigsby also was making a run. As Frakes and Charles exited turn 4 so did Rigsby right between the leaders as he took the lead out of four! It was a daring move that proved dividends for the Topeka driver.

Rigsby wasn’t done yet because Harker had quietly been making his way to the front of the field. On the white flag lap he put a run on Rigsby and coming out of 4 Rigsby would take away Harker’s line and the win on night #2.

Rigsby would be the 2nd different winner in the IMCA N. Sport Mods this season.

Harker finished 2nd, 3rd went to the hustling Charles, Frakes still finished with one of his best finishes in 4th and then Kyle Stallbaumer drove from 17th to finish 5th.

The BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified Feature also held some late race heroics in it.

Steven Bowers Jr., the defending track champion, won an early battle with Allen Halderman at the beginning of the feature to take the lead in the main event. Bowers would hold on to the top spot as several drivers battle behind him.

Clay Hale, Justin Jergens, Tom Charles, Darron Fuqua and Jordan Grabouski were just a few drivers that were putting on a march to the front of the field.

Bowers was on a mission at the front of the pack. Lap after lap he held down the top spot.

Just as in the N. Sport Mod Feature, a late race yellow would come out and change the look of this race.

Bowers who had led the entire way developed an issue as the yellow came out. His hood had come UN-pinned at the front and it folded up, blocking his line of sight. As he led the field back to a green flag racing it was only a matter of time before the problem would get worse.

On the restart Jergens took to the low line on the leader and Grabouski sailed high. The three drivers went around turns 1 and 2 and it was Grabouski with the power move taking the top spot. As he took the lead Grabouski dove to the bottom of the track in turn 3 to halt Jergens momentum and it paid off.

Grabouski would hold everyone off and take home the win. He would become the 2nd different winner of the season in the Modified division.

Jergens finished in the runner-up spot, from 9th to finish 3rd was Hale, 4th went to Charles and 5th was a hard charging Jeremy Chambers who went from 16th to 5th in the feature.

Excitement and drama, once again, fell on another feature as the Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Cars put on an outstanding feature.

Geoff Jermark won the early battle during the feature and took the lead. Jermark, who had a great run last week, was looking at a possible victory on this night as he was building a large lead on the field.

As he began to navigate lapped traffic, Jergens went to make a quick move on the car in front of him. It was a bad break. Jergens would spin in turn 4 bringing out the yellow flag. He would have to go to the tail end of the field.

As the race restarted it was the winner on night number 1 from a year ago, Brandon Conkwright, taking over the lead.

Conkwright, with more time behind the wheel, is celebrating a good start to the 2016 season. A win looked in the cards for him on this night.

Lapped traffic would again come into play for the race leader.

On the white flag lap Conkwright would feel pressure from the winner on night #1 this season, Matt Haid. As the two made it around the track for the final time, Conkwright working the high side saw a lapped car in his sights, and his line, and he would bobble just enough for Haid to make a run at the leader.

As the two came out of 4 it was Haid taking the advantage. Haid would win the drag race to the finish and he would become the first repeat winner at Thunder Hill Speedway in 2016.

Conkwright settled for the runner-up spot, Marvin Griffith Jr. had a good night finishing 3rd, 4th was Mat Stallbaumer, who started 12th on the grid, and rounding out the top 5 was Jim Powell Jr.

A week ago Tyler Hinrichs came home with a 2nd place finish in the Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Saturday night he was looking for the top spot.

Nicholas Ronnebaum had a strong night. The multiple time feature winner from last season took to a big lead in the feature as the competition was battling it out behind him.

Just like the other features on the night, a late race yellow would add some excitement to this one.

Ronnebaum would be out front and a double file tandem behind him of Jason Cleveland, Mark Saathoff, Tyler Hinrichs and Koby Minnis were ready to pounce on the leader as the yellow wiped out any advantage Ronnebaum had.

The drama was there but it just didn’t develop once the green flag flew again.

Ronnebaum got the drop on the competition and sped off to the win. It was his 1st of the season.

Hinrichs made a strong couple of moves on the last restart to finish in the runner-up spot for the 2nd straight week, a couple of newcomers Cleveland and Saathoff would finish 3rd and 4th respectively and last week’s winner Ryan Sutter finished in the 5th spot.

Racing action continues for the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on The Hill next Saturday night, May 21st. All the weekly classes will be in action and a bonus will be celebrated as the fans will get to see the NCRA/NeSmith Late Models as they come to battle it out.

To keep up with all the action check them out on the web at racethunderhillspeedway.com or on Facebook at Thunder Hill Speedway.
