Mayetta, KS – Mother Nature tried to put a stop to Saturday night’s show at Thunder Hill Speedway. The word to pay attention too is, tried.

Mike & Pam Conkwright and their staff stayed on top of the weather all night long and squeezed in another AWESOME night of racing at Thunder Hill Speedway.

At the beginning of the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified feature it was Randy Wilson and David Conkwright bringing the field to the green flag. Wilson would jump to the top spot out of the gate.

A couple of drivers, Kyle Olberding and Steven Bowers Jr., were right on Wilson’s heels waiting to take the top spot. Olberding would get by coming out of turn 4.

Olberding would stay in the top spot as the hungry pack of racers tried to run him down. One racer, last week’s winner, Jordan Grabouski, was moving quickly into 2nd after starting 11th on the grid.

It wasn’t long before Grabouski was ready to make his move on the leader. Coming thru turns 1 and 2, Grabouski used a hard run off the banking coming out of turn 2. He would race by Olberding on the low side and move to the top spot.

Ollberding wouldn’t lay down for the former track and IMCA National Champ. Olberding applied the pressure each and every lap he could.

On a restart, after a yellow, Bowers would move into the 2nd spot. A couple of new faces were also coming to the party in Jeremy Chambers and Darron Fuqua.

Olberding moved back into 2nd as Fuqua began to put some pressure on for that 2nd spot.

Grabouski was still in command out in front and he would hold on for his 2nd straight win on the season.

Fuqua would win the battle with Olberding for 2nd and it solidified him as the hard charger as he started 17th and raced to 2nd, 3rd went to Olberding, 4th was another hard charger, Clay Money who started 19th and finished 4th and Chambers would round out the top 5.

The JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod Feature saw a coming of age tale.

Third generation driver, Austin Charles, has been steadily improving as a driver since he arrived at Thunder Hill Speedway a few years ago. Last season he showed glimpses of just how good he can be. Saturday night he showed everyone just how good he is!

On Saturday night Charles powered his way to the front of the field early. From there he put his stranglehold on the rest of the competition. Charles would hit his marks all night long and he was faster through the corners than any other competitor. You put that combination together and you have a winning combination and that’s just what Charles did was win!

It was Charles 1st win of the season and he becomes the 3rd different feature winner in the division.

Lance Borgman raced his way to a 2nd place finish, last week’s winner, Bryan Rigsby, started 19th in the main and drove all the way up to finish 3rd, 4th was Brian Nieberger and rounding out the top 5 was another driver on the move going from 16th to 5th was Tim Stallbaumer.

The Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Feature saw a wild one at the finish!

Tommy Fose took control of the race early on and held the top spot for a majority of the race.

A late race yellow was thrown and the race was about to get interesting on the restart.

On the restart Fose would see pressure from all angles. Derek Husted would put a run on Fose in the top spot. Two times Husted would put the slide job on the leader. Unfortunately for Husted, it would stick and Fose took the lead back on the first one. The 2nd one was a different story.

The two would make contact coming out of turn four collecting the opening night winner, Ryan Sutter. Husted would be the only driver to stop on the track so he would be sent to the rear of the field.

On the ensuing restart the top 3 cars were go 3 wide out of turn 2. Fose, Sutter and Tyler Garst sped out of turn 2 but it would be Sutter getting the advantage. Once in the point position Sutter would speed off to win number 2 of the season.

Fose held on to the runner-up finish, Garst came home in 3rd, 4th went to Levi Henery and rookie, Chris Lierz, finished with a top 5 in the 5th spot.

Geoff Jermark finally gets his 1st win of 2016. Reed Bros. Racing Photos.

Dominic Thyfault, Brandon Conkwright and Geoff Jermark made the Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Feature a 3 car shootout right from the start.

Soon the battle at the front would become a 2 car battle between Jermark and Thyfault.

A yellow on the speedway would allow Matt Haid, a 2x feature winner on the season, to join in the party as the green flag flew.

Thyfault would meet the challenge from the competition as he took to the lead once again. Jermark was keeping pace and looking for a place to make his move.

As a few drivers did before him. Jermark put the deep drive in below Thyfault. As the two came into turn number 2, it was Jermark coming out with the lead.

A late race yellow would give the drivers one more chance at getting to Jermark.

On this night Jermark would not be denied as he drove to the win. It was his 1st win of the season at Thunder Hill. It also marked a different winner going to Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane for the 1st time this season.

Haid was able to race his way to 2nd, 3rd would go to Thyfault, Greg Deters put on a strong run while finishing in the 4th position and rounding out the top 5 was a hard charging Jim Powell Jr. that went from 19th to 5th in the feature.

The NCRA/NeSmith Late Model portion of the show was won by Lyle Shepard.

Racing continues next Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway. For more information visit them on the world wide web at racethunderhillspeedway.com.
