Mayetta, KS – Fans at Thunder Hill Speedway might think that the 2016 race season is on repeat mode or at least that’s what Jordan Grabouski is trying to make the fans think.

The BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified Feature started out with Allen Halderman bringing the field to the green flag from the pole position. After an early battle Mike Conkwright would take the lead.

Last year’s track champion, Steven Bowers Jr., took a shot at the top spot. He would hang on to it for a majority of the feature. With 14 laps left a yellow flag would bunch the field up and see a restart. Grabouski, who started 10th, found himself in 2nd on the restart and knew it was time to make a move.

Grabouski would follow Bowers around the speedway and in turn 4 he made a move that would put him in the top spot. Bowers, always the racer, battled back for a couple of laps. Soon lapped traffic would come into play and Grabouski picked up all the right moves as he picked up his 3rd straight win of the season.

The early part of this season seems a lot like a few years ago when Grabouski won the Thunder Hill Speedway IMCA Modified Track Championship and the IMCA Modified National Championship. Could he be on another quest for a track and National Championship?

Bowers held on to the 2nd place spot at the finish, finishing 3rd was a hard working David Conkwright, Joe Cleveland raced his way to a 4th place finish while Darron Fuqua went from 9th to 5th in the main event.

Marvin Griffith Jr. seemed to have all the answers for the competition in the Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Feature.

Griffith jumped to the early lead and answered all the challenges that were thrown at him. As the race wore on Griffith began to put some distance between himself and the rest of the field. That was until something happened in turn 4 and Griffith spun around while in the lead. In the spin he would collect a couple of cars, including Dominic Thyfault as he was racing inside the top 3 all night.

As usual fans were treated to 3 and 4 wide racing in the Stock Car Feature. Griffith’s spin would be a great boost to both Jim Powell Jr. and Matt Haid.

On the restart these 2 drivers raced out to the lead with Geoff Jermark and Brandon Conkwright right on their tales.

Powell would end up with the lead. As the race restarted he expanded the lead a little more with each lap. Late in the race time was running out on Haid to get the job done.

Haid would make a push at Powell, but it was Powell’s night to take home the win.

Haid finished 2nd, 3rd would be Jermark, Conkwright finished 4th and Colton Miller had a strong run finishing 5th.

Last season wasn’t the greatest follow up to the previous year for Jeremy Pittsenbarger.

Two year’s ago Pittsenbarger was on his way to the track championship at Thunder Hill Speedway in the JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mods. Last year it was a tough one for the former champ. This season he has come out with a goal in mind, to win as much as possible!

Brian Murphy stormed out to the early lead in the main event, but he couldn’t run away from the field. The competition level in this division is 2nd to none.

As the laps clicked off Pittsenbarger made a charge at Murphy and would drive by him for the lead. At the top spot he would continue to build on his advantage.

From the top he would see several chargers from different drivers. In the end he would hang on all the way to the finish for the win. It was Pittsenbarger’s first win of the season.

Bryan Rigsby would keep a hold of the top spot in the points with a runner-up finish, Shawn Harker started 19th on the grid and raced his way all the way up to 3rd, 4th would go to Brian Murphy and rounding out the top 5 was the previous feature winner, Austin Charles.

Race tracks can’t go wrong when the fans are up on their feet cheering on a race. This was the case in the Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Feature.

At the beginning of the race it was Lafe Garst that took the top spot. Spots for position were up for grabs as everyone seemed to be jockeying for position. As several cars were battling for position up front, one driver, Tyler Hinrichs, looked to get faster as the race went on.

Hinrichs jumped out and worked his way past the leader.

Tyler Garst was the closest competitor to get near Hinrichs and he made a valiant effort to mount a charge but just couldn’t get it done.

On this night Hinrichs would not be stopped as he picked up the win and moved to 2nd in the early season point standings.

Hinrichs becomes the 3rd different winner in the class this season at Thunder Hill.

Garst came home with another top 5 finish in the runner-up position, Ryan Sutter raced his way to a 3rd place finish, hard charging, Jaylen Wettengel, went from 14th to 4th in the feature and the 5th spot went to Nicholas Ronnebaum.

Next Saturday June 11, 2016 the racing action at Thunder Hill Speedway will continue with the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on the Hill. It will be Big Time Bail Bonds and Ladies Night at the races. All ladies will get in FREE next Saturday.
