Marrant Doubles Up At Lakeside Speedway

Kansas City, KS – Temperatures have been rising all week long in the Kansas City, KS area (as well most of the Midwest) but the racers and fans turned out for their favorite past time on Friday night, Dirt Track Racing At Lakeside Speedway.

A whopping 25 cars showed up to battle it out in the USRA Modified division on Friday night at Lakeside Speedway.

Heading into the season the class has been dominated by the Clancy’s. Chad has the most wins and leads the points on the early part of the season and brother Steven has won the last 2 features.

Friday night JC Morton returned to Lakeside Speedway for the first time since picking up a dominating win earlier in the season. Morton would show that early win in the year was no fluke.

As the race got underway it was Morton who grabbed control early.

Several drivers jockeyed for position behind him, but it was Morton leading the way with Tim Powell right behind him. They would stay this way for a majority of the feature as they worked through lapped traffic. A late race yellow would give the competition a shot at Morton one last time.

The green waved once again on the speedway and the outcome was the same. Morton took back to the lead as the 2nd through 5th place racers began to battle each other more.

At the checkers it was Morton getting his 2nd win in just his 2nd try on the season.

Shad Turner won a good battle with Tim Powell for the 2nd spot, Powell would hold on for 3rd, 4th went to a hard charging Brad Smith, who started all the way back in 15th and rounding out the top 5 was Trevor Hunt.

The USRA Modified Feature saw a dominating performance by it’s winner.

Aaron Marrant took home a win earlier in the night in the ULMA Late Model Feature. What he could he do for an encore?

How about pick up another win by more than a straight away over the 2nd place competitor.

At the start of this one Marrant checked out on the field. Marrant and his hot rod looked to be head and shoulders above the competition on Friday night. Having won earlier in the night might have given Marrant enough test and tune time for the Modified main event.

The battle started shaping up for the 2nd spot and in the end it was Tim Karrick finishing in the runner up spot, Mark Schafman raced his way to a 3rd place finish, 4th went to Nic Bidinger and Kerry Davis, the current points leader, finished in 5th spot.

In the USRA Stock Car Feature it was a repeat performance for the point leader Brett Heeter.

Heeter started on the front row next to Lucas Conley as the green flag would fly. Heeter jumped out to the early lead but the action would be halted as multiple time feature, Kevin Anderson, got upside down in turn turn 4.

When the green flag came back out on the feature it was Heeter blasting his way to the front one more time. It would be the last time the competition would give Heeter any trouble as he sped away to another USRA Stock Car Feature win. The win and Anderson’s misfortune would help Heeter add to his points lead.

Conley would hold on for the 2nd spot at the finish, 3rd went to Trevor Hunt who started 10th in the main, 4th would be Kevin McGinnis and Steve Herrick filled out the top 5 in the 5th position.

The Factory Stock Feature saw a good 2 car battle for the win with a surprising outcome happening in the end.

Jason Ryun has dominated this division in it’s Rookie year. Friday night it someone else’s turn at the front of the pack.

Marshall Jewett has won features and championships before at Lakeside Speedway. It was only a matter of time before he would start putting together a winning run in the Factory Stock division.

Friday night Jewett got out to the early lead. During the main event Jewett his all of his marks and kept his hot rod in the place it needed to be all night long, in front of Jason Ryun.

Several times Ryun tried to make a move by Jewett, but Jewett had taken the most advantageous line on the speedway. Every time it looked as if Ryun was going by Jewett would slam the door and retake the lead.

At the stripe it was Jewett getting the win.

Ryun would finish 2nd, JR Billings drove his way to a 3rd place finish and 4th went to Leroy Morrison.

Lakeside Speedway regular Aaron Marrant dominated another ULMA Late Model Feature on Friday night.

Marrant set sail on the field on the opening lap and was never challenged the rest of the way in the feature event.

Bobby Penny would finish in the runner-up spot, going from 6th to 3rd in the feature was Bob King, coming home 4th in his 1st time out in a ULMA Late Model was Chad Clancy and Scotty Phillips would finish in the 5th position.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday night this weekend at Lakeside Speedway as the No Limits Monster Truck Summer Nationals roars into Lakeside Speedway.
