Mayetta, KS – Feldkamp’s Furniture Night at the races brought out extra money to the racers of Thunder Hill Speedway on Saturday night.

The extra money provided some added incentive for the drivers to do their best. It’s hard to believe they could make the racing even more exciting at the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash On The Hill, but they did!

Brian Murphy raced last season in the IMCA Modified division and wasn’t planning on racing in 2016. It’s a good thing he changed his mind and returned to race at Thunder Hill Speedway this season in the JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod division because he is having a solid year.

Murphy began the Saturday night’s feature inside the 5th row and it wouldn’t be long before he made his way to the front. Bryan Bowers the early leader was getting a barrage of challenges from Murphy, Luke Stallbaumer and Kyle Stallbaumer.

Just before the halfway point Murphy would take over the top spot. At the top spot Murphy would receive a strong battle from Kyle Stallbaumer. Stallbaumer would apply the pressure, but Murphy would meet the challenge and stretch the lead back out.

Coming to the white flag lap, Murphy would hit all of his marks and Stallbaumer got out of the groove at the top of turn 4 and it ended his challenge. Murphy would speed off to the checkers and become the 6th different feature winner of the season in the Northern Sport Mods at Thunder Hill Speedway.

The win was also worth $500 to Murphy as Feldkamp’s Furniture put extra money up for the winner.

K. Stallbaumer finished 2nd, Branden Spanjer won the battle for 3rd with Luke Stallbuamer, who finished 4th, and rounding out the top 5 was a hustling Austin Charles.

For another week in the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified Feature it looked like a repeat of a race we have seen before on Saturday night.

Allen Halderman, starting from the pole position, got out to the early lead. Halderman would hang on to the top spot until Steven Bowers Jr. would take the top spot from him.

Bowers has been in the situation before, being at the front of the pack. The 2015 Thunder Hill Speedway Track Champion has had his share of wins at the speedway, but in 2016 he hasn’t found that right combination yet.

One driver who has found the right combination is Jordan Grabouski.

Grabouski came into the the night with 4 straight wins under his belt and with a $1,000 to win on the line Saturday night he was looking for win #5.

Bowers would lead Grabouski around the track. Lap after lap Grabouski started to eat away at Bower’s lead. As the two drivers entered through lapped traffic it would allow Grabouski that edge he needed to get closer. Before long the two were side by side battling for the top spot. Grabouski would slip by and Bowers would battle back.

Behind the two a great battle was going on for 3rd and 4th between Troy Baumgartner and Tyler Frye, but all eyes were on the front of the field.

Grabouski finally cleared Bowers and took over the lead. From there he kicked it into gear and raced his way to win #5 and the $1,000 payday.

Bowers finished in the 2nd spot, Baumgartner celebrated his best run of the season finishing 3rd, 4th went to Frye and Jeremy Chambers finished in the 5th spot.

In the final feature of the night it was a bonus class entertaining the fans of Thunder Hill Speedway.

The NCRA/NeSmith Late Models were also putting on a big race for a $1,000 too!

Lyle Shepard, the last Late Model feature winner at Thunder Hill Speedway, shot out to the early lead. Shepard looked to be on his way to an easy victory, but would that happen?

A late race yellow bunched up the field and on the restart, Delbert ‘The Iceman’ Smith, blew right past Shepard to take the lead. Smith would hold down the top spot as Shepard gave chase. Smith would stay at the front but lapped traffic loomed in front and would slow him down. This was the break Shepard would need.

As the two drivers came down the front straight Shepard saw his shot at retaking the lead and possibly being the move that could get him the win. Smith was hung up behind a lapped car and as the two went into turn 1, Shepard dove hard into the turn and put the pressure on Smith. Shepard would wash up just in front of Smith and took off with the lead.

Shepard sped to the checkered flag and would get the win and the $1,000 payday.

Smith would have to settle for the runner-up spot on the night.

The Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Feature was no surprise to the fans. It was another barn burner of a race.

Eric Rempel and Mark Ronnebaum brought the field to the green and as soon as this race fired up so did the racers. During the feature you could have thrown a blanket over the top 4 drivers as they were that close on the speedway.

Just after the early portion of the feature, Brandon Conkwright would lead the field around the speedway. Conkwright, currently 3rd in the points, was having a strong run but Jim Powell Jr., Blake Peeler, Dominic Thyfault and Colton Miller were hot on his tracks. Before getting to Conkwright, Powell had to get by Thyfault.

Powell would apply the pressure to Thyfault for the 2nd spot and in the process would bring along Peeler. As Powell and Peeler were on the move they caught up to Conkwright and put an assault on the top spot. Powell would slide by Conkwright for the lead. Conkwright would battle back, but Peeler was also there to battle with Conkwright. Peeler would slide by and try to run down Powell.

An earlier winner this season Powell would hang on by a slim margin for the win. Peeler might have had something for Powell if the feature would have went 16 laps on the night, but he had to settle for the runner-up spot.

Conkwright would finish in 3rd, Thyfault would stay in the top 5 and finish in the 4th spot and 5th would go to Colton Miller.

The first feature of the night saw a dominating performance from a new face to Thunder Hill Speedway.

The Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Feature saw Jeremy Mulich race his way to the front of the pack.

An angry mob stayed on Mulich’s tail at the top spot, but one driver, Jesse Vanlaningham, was on the move and moving quickly.

Vanlaningham started 10th in the feature and in no time found himself alongside Mulich for the lead. Vanlaningham was too tough on this night. At the front of the field he would go unchallenged on the way to the victory. Vanlaningham would become the 4th different feature winner on the season at Thunder Hill Speedway.

Tyler Hinrichs celebrated a good run finishing 2nd, 3rd went to Mulich, Ryan Sutter, the points leader, finished 4th and 5th spot went to Kurt Hansen.

The Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on The Hill continues next Saturday night June, 25th! Make plans to be there now.
