Mayetta, KS – Saturday night was a strong night of racing at Thunder Hill Speedway where several new faces found their way into Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane by the end of the night.

It was just a few week’s back when David Conkwright put his BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified inside the top 5 at the end of the night. He was close to getting his 1st win that night it just wasn’t in the cards.

Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway the opportunity was right in front of Conkwright, as long as he could seize the moment.

Starting from the front row it wasn’t long before Conkwright found himself in the top spot, just as he had before. This time there were some yellow flags that changed the complexion of the race. It wouldn’t faze Conkwright as he kept the hammer down in front of the competition all night long.

Darron Fuqua would be the closest driver on the night to run down Conkwright. Fuqua, who started back in 8th, worked his way to the 2nd spot and had a chance at Conkwright if the opportunity was to present itself.

On the white flag lap Fuqua closed as much as he could on Conkwright in turns 1 and 2. Turn 3 would be his final opportunity. Fuqua ran off the top of the track and quickly came down the banking hoping to get a run that would put him out in front of Conkwright. it wouldn’t happen.

Conkwright held his composure all race long. He kept his line and it would propel him to the victory he had been looking for. With the win Conkwright joins Jordy Nelson and Jordan Grabouski as the only winners this season in the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified division.

Darron Fuqua would settle for a strong showing in 2nd, last year’s champ, Steven Bowers Jr., finished in the 3rd spot, Troy Baumgartner put another great effort together and finished 4th and Justin Jurgens hustled all the way from 16th to finish 5th at the end.

In the JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod Feature event it was a tale of just keep trying.

Dusty Leonard has moved on to racing Late Models full time with the NCRA/Nesmith bunch, but his roots are still in the Sport Mods. Leonard has spent a lot of time in the Sport Mods and he has logged some big time wins. This season Leonard is back in a Sport Mod at Thunder Hill driving for the Pantoja’s.

Saturday night it was Leonard’s night to shine.

As the race sometimes dictates you have to wait through the bad and get to the good. This season has seen it’s ups and downs for Leonard, but Saturday night got underway with a 2nd place finish in the heat and the car felt good as he got ready for the feature.

Leonard would hold down the top spot in the feature while a couple of hot shoes, Kyle Stallbaumer, and last week’s feature winner, Brian Murphy, were hot on his trail.

Just as the Modified Feature went, so too would the Sport Mod A Main.

Leonard held the lead and it was a hard charging Stallbaumer that would come up just short at the finish.

The JAG Trucking Northern Sport Mods are the most popular and toughest class at Thunder Hill Speedway. Leonard, with the win, now becomes the 7th different winner in 7 feature races in 2016!

K. Stallbaumer finished in the runner-up spot, Brian Murphy continued his stellar season in 3rd, 4th went to the hard charger, Jeremy Pittsenbarger, who drove from 18th to 4th and Jacob Davis rounded out the top 5 in 5th.

Another new face drove into Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane in the Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock division on Saturday night, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Tyler Garst ended last season as the Thunder Hill Speedway IMCA Hobby Stock Track Champion. This season he is still in the chase as he is in the top 5 in points. After Saturday night he can also throw a win in on the season too.

The night started out excellent for Garst as he took home a heat race win. The track was shaping up to be one that Garst would favor on the night.

As the green flag came out it didn’t take long for Garst to move his way into the lead. On this night Garst seem to have the much needed edge to keep him out in front of the competition. Lap after lap he would build on his advantage at the top spot.

Yellow flags would slow the race down some, but each time it got back underway Garst would go right back to building a lead. As the others would battle back and forth behind him, Garst would cruise to his 1st win of 2016. Garst now is the 5th different winner in the Hobby Stock class.

A couple of 2 time feature winners, Nicholas Roneebaum and Ryan Sutter, finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, 4th went to Tyler Hinrichs and Chris Lierz had another good run finishing 5th.

Every now and then you will get a POWER WINNER at the track. Saturday night in the Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Feature the fans were treated to a POWEER WINNER.

Matt Haid was the only driver to win last Saturday night that wasn’t a first time winner. Haid, after Saturday night, is a 3x feature winner on the season.

Since winning back on the 2nd night out, Haid has had mechanical issues, bad luck and anything else you could think of.

Saturday night Haid was on a rail as he blasted to the front of the field. His car could go anywhere he wanted to put in on the track. Forward bite, control through the corners, Haid had everything that anyone could ask for.

The other plus was the fact that everyone behind him was shooting it out allowing him to scoot away from the competition.

Haid would easily go on to his 3rd win of the season, after having started inside the 5th row. Even though it was his 3rd win of the season, he still is sitting in a tie with Jim Powell Jr. for the top spot in the points.

Greg Deters had a good night coming home in 2nd, 3rd went to Tim Pruett (who celebrated one of his best finishes), 4th was Powell, who started 10th in the feature and Marvin Griffith Jr. fought his way to a 5th place finish.

Great racing and fun continues next Saturday night, July 2nd. A free Fireworks Show will entertain the fans on top of all the excitement that they will get from the best IMCA racing action on Saturday night!
