Topeka – July 4th is rapidly approaching and Heartland Park Topeka wanted to do something special for this week’s Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown and they found it.

This Sunday night July 3 will be Big Time Bail Bonds Night at the Races!

Thanks to Ryan & Doreen Weekley at Big Time Bail Bonds and Heartland Park Topeka, an extra $1,000 will be going into the nightly purse.
For years Big Time Bail Bonds has been a sponsor of a lot of local teams and venues. The Weekleys take pride in supporting local racing this year they have moved up from just sponsoring local race teams and now are the title sponsor of 2 weekly race tracks! It shows that Big Time Bail Bonds is an asset to the local racing community.

Heartland Park Topeka is committed to making their racing facility one of the premier racing destinations in the U.S. and they are committed to the racers too. Heartland Park decided this week to match the donation by Big Time Bail Bonds bringing the total to $1,000.

The extra money is not added on just for the winner. Several different positions have seen their pay increase to give everyone some incentive to race just a little harder.

With July 4th the following day, the fans need to have something for them as a bonus and J.Y. Fireworks, located at 5105 S. Topeka Blvd., will be on hand Sunday night to provide something for the fans.

That’s right some lucky fans will be going home with some FREE FIREWORKS this Sunday night! Just in time for July 4th.

J.Y. Fireworks has been serving the Topeka area in the same spot for over 35 years. Their great prices and superior selection set them apart from everyone else.

What Happened The Last Race At Heartland Park…
Derrick Brown scored the unthinkable in the BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified Feature, he held off 3 time feature winner, Jordan Grabouski. Former Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Car Champ, Steven Herrick, scored his 1st win of the 2016 season. Brian Davidson returned from a short layoff to race his way to win #1 on the season in the Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Northern Sport Mod Feature. Splitting a car with his brother from Saturday to Sunday night, Dalton Ronnebaum blasted his way to a win in the Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Hobby Stock main event.

BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified Notes…
With the win last week Derrick Brown becomes 1 of only 3 drivers to have won a feature this season.
Danny Holt continued his string of top 5 finishes as last race out he finished in the 3rd position.
A big melee got the last race feature off to a slow start, once it got back to green flag racing action there was action all over the speedway.
The hard charger last week went to Jordan Grabouski who started 8th and finished 2nd on the night.
Only 35 points separate the point leader, Jordan Grabouski, from the 5th place in points, Jared Rogers.

This Week’s Driver to Watch… Mike Eisenhut #2, Topeka, KS.

Eisenhut has been around the racing community for quite some time. This season he is gaining more consistent feature finishes. Last race out an unfortunate breakage of his left front caused him to bow out of the race early in the night. The bad luck shouldn’t continue to follow him, but you never know. Eisenhut is a strong competitor and watch him this week to see if he is somewhere in the top 5 by the race end.

Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Car Notes…
It was nice to see Steve Herrick finish at the front of the last feature event. Herrick is a former track champ at Heartland Park and the win had to be a big boost to his confidence.
Jim Powell Jr. made Herrick earn the win two weeks ago. The competition level in this division is second to none.
Points leader Brandon Conkwright just keeps finishing toward the top each and every week. Last race he finished 3rd and it’s helped him gain a 15 point advantage.
Bryan Rigsby had a strong race going from 12th to 7th. He was looking at a top 5 but a mishap on the final lap set him back to 7th.
5 different winners have raced into victory lane after 5 features have been raced this season.

This Week’s Driver To Watch… Christine Holt #11, Topeka, KS.

In 2016, Christine Holt is having one of her best seasons ever. No she is not beating down the door to victory lane, but what she is doing is getting better each week. Holt’s been in, or near, the top 10 every race night. Not a bad stat considering she is in one of the toughest classes in the U.S. Holt’s attitude helps her out each and every Sunday night. Being the only female in a male dominated sport, Holt is just working at her own pace and getting things done the way she likes them. Watch this week and see if she is in the hunt for a win.

Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Northern Sport Mod Notes…

It was just 2 races ago when Brian Davidson was involved in a nasty wreck on the front stretch. It looked like his car was toast. Not so. Last week after a lot of TLC, Davidson was able to make it out and not compete, but he won the main event.
Out of 5 features raced this season, there have been 5 different winners on the season. No driver has been able to repeat as a winner this year.
Just 23 points separate the top 6 in the point standings.

Derek Huffman. Reed Bros Racing Photos

Driver to Watch This Week… Derek Huffman #1, Topeka, KS.

Huffman has been a long time supporter of racing at Heartland Park Topeka. He likes the track and he is comfortable with the surroundings. This season Huffman has turned in some solid efforts. He has been near the front of the pack a couple of times but something seems to always happen. Currently Huffman’s strong season has placed him 5th in the points just 19 back of the leader. Keep an eye on this pilot Sunday night!

Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Hobby Stock Notes…

If one thing could be said about racing at Heartland Park it would probably be just how tough the competition is. Out of 5 features raced this season there have been 5 different winners.
Dalton Ronnebaum started 5th on the grid last race out and ended up winning it by a decent margin.
There is a tight battle in the points as the leader, Dalton Ronnebaum, sits on top for now, but the top 4 drivers are separated by just 16 points.
Jaylen Wettengel had one of his best finishes ever in 3rd place last race out.

Randy Kohn. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Randy Kohn. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Driver to Watch This Week… Randy Kohn #17, Topeka, KS.

Randy Kohn is one of those drivers that everyone should be terrified of. He is quite and mild mannered, but when you get him outside he is a bear ready to attack anything that gets in his way. A former multiple feature time winner at HPT. Kohn has had some strong finishes. This season he isn’t pushing so hard. In doing this it’s paying off for Kohn this season. He has slowly started to figure his car out. This week watch and see if Kohn finishes strong and gets the chance to go fishing.
