Topeka, KS – Heading into Sunday night’s Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown there had been no repeat winners in 3 of the 4 IMCA weekly classes that race. As the season moved into it’s 7th event of the season something had to give, or did it?

The event of the night had to be the BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified A Main.

Point leader, Jordan Grabouski, moved quickly into the lead during the feature. He began to put some distance on the field. A yellow flag would spell trouble for the 3 time feature winner. Grabouski during one of the yellow flag laps pulled off the track with mechanical problems.

This would hand the lead over to the veteran, Tom Charles.

Charles, who started 9th on the field, kept the competition in check most of the night. That was until the last few laps of the night.

Steven Bowers Jr. began to eat into Charles’s lead late in the race. As they came to the white flag. Bowers was right on the back bumper of Charles. As the two worked the final turn Bowers took the the extreme bottom and Charles was in the middle of the track side by side as the came out of turn 4.

As they sprinted down the stretch it appeared the Charles had a slight lead as the sprinted to the flagstand. Bowers caught his groove down the straightaway. The two drivers were again side by side. Heading to the stripe Bowers would edge in front of Charles by the slightest of margins. From the vantage point in the tower the margin of victory was about 3/4 of a front bumper.

It was a great race to cap off a strong evening of racing. Bowers would become the 5th different winner in the division.

Charles would come home with a hard fought runner-up finish in the runner-up spot, Danny Holt, last week’s winner, finished in 3rd, 4th went to Mike Eisenhut and after starting 12th, young, Nicholas Carpenter finished in the 5th spot.

One week ago Brandon Conkwright led the majority of laps before a wild finish relegated him to a 5th place finish in the Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Cars. This week Conkwright was a man on a mission.

Christine Holt and Steve Herrick would bring the field to the green, but it was Conkwright that would hustle from his 6th starting position to the front of the pack. Conkwright and Dominic Thyfault would sit in the top 2 spots for several laps.

Ryan Phillips and Jim Powell starting to move through the field as the top 2 cars continued to show the way. That was until Thyfault began to have a problem. A flat tire set in and would take him out of the race. That meant Powell and Phillips would mount a charge at Conkwright.

They would mount a charge but nothing was going to stop the youngster from Wamego. Conkwright would hang on all the way to the finish and pick up his 1st win at Heartland Park Topeka.

Conkwright becomes the 7th different winner of the season in the Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Cars.

Powell won the battle for the 2nd position, Phillips would complete the race in the 3rd spot, 4th went to a hard charging, Greg Deters and rounding out the top 5 was Josh Everhart, who started the feature in 14th.

There wasn’t to be a repeat winner in the Jersey Mike’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature.

A wild scrum at the start of this one would see 3 wide action heading into turn 1. Dodd Proctor, Levi Henery and Ricky Tanner all rolled into the 1st turn together and the action would cost Henery the most. Henery would cut down a tire and it took him out of the race.

Alex Boyden would hold on to the top spot for a while before the opening night feature winner, Cody Williams, came sprinting to the front. Williams went on to roll right by Boyden, taking over the top spot.

Williams began to run away from the competition from that point on. Boyden wouldn’t give up as he ate back away at the lead that Williams had established. By the final lap Boyden was in position to make a move on Williams at the front.

Boyden dove hard into turn 3 on the low side and would have to back out of the gas. If he hadn’t he probably would have wrecked himself and the leader, Williams.

As Boyden backed out Williams raced his way to the flag stand picking up his 2nd win of the season. A strong run for a guy who flipped at another track a few weeks ago and had to put together a whole new ride in a short period of time.

Boyden would finish 2nd, Dalton Ronnebaum started 10th and made his way up to 3rd at the finish, 4th was Tyler Garst and Byron Glotzback nailed down the 5th position.

Another class that would bump the trend and see another repeat winner was the Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Northern Sport Mods.

Tony Filbert and Billy Carreno led the field to the start of the A main event and as the green flag dropped the excitement began.

Carreno put on one of his best drives of the night as he hung around the front of the pack all night long. Jaylen Wettengel, Brian Davidson, Curtis Dreasher and Dan Charles were also battling at the front of the field.

Another driver that was in the middle of the action was a feature winner from earlier in the season, Dustin Thulin.

Thulin, a former track champ at Heartland Park, knows how to navigate the speedway to his advantage and he did just that on Sunday night. Out in front of the field Thulin would put some distance between he and 2nd place, Billy Carreno, on the way to his 2nd win of the season.

Carreno put together his best finish of the season in 2nd, Bryce Frakes, the previous week’s winner, finished in 3rd, 4th would go to Austin Charles and rounding out the top 5 was Dan Charles.

The Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown will be off for a couple of weeks and then it will come back with a bang. August 7th will be Big Time Bail Bonds Night at the Races! All classes and all positions will be racing for extra money and the night will be highlighted by the Cars 4 Less Stock Car Shootout! A $600 to win and $100 to start Stock Car Feature! Money is still be added to the purse, so possibly look for the payout to get even greater.
