thunder hill june 18 2016 175

Mayetta, KS – Last week’s races at Thunder Hill Speedway were just like every other race this season, EXCITING! The fantastic FREE FIREWORKS Display after the races were even better than advertised. What will Thunder Hill Speedway do for an encore this week?

How about this Saturday night, July 23rd, Thunder Hill Speedway will not only give the fans more of the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds, Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Cars, JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mods and the Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stocks! Fans will also get another helping of the NCRA/NeSmith Chevrolet Late Models! What more could fans ask for? Each and every week Thunder Hill gives them a treat.

RACE NOTES!!!

What Happened Last Race Out at the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on The Hill…
Last week it was a special night as the Oren Covert Memorial Race was center stage for yet another year. Jordan Grabouski had been shut out of Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane for the last few weeks and last week he kicked the door down holding off all the challengers and took home another victory in the Modified division. After a post race tech infraction Matt Haid was declared the winner of the Stock Car Feature that paid an extra $200.00 to win. Brian Murphy is becoming too tough to time in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod division as he won his 2nd feature of the season. In the Hobby Stock division it was a surprise upset as Larry Bouton Jr. held on for the win.

Setting the Table For This Week!

BSB Manufacturing Modified Notes…
Point leader Jordan Grabouski finally got off the slide last week and went back to victory lane. Grabo got a little test from Darron Fuqua, who seems to have figured out his crate motor, and the two drivers are currently 1 and 2 in the standings. Both have won Thunder Hill titles before so this one will be interesting to watch play out.
49 is the number of different drivers that have logged laps in the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds in 2016.
Last week’s top 3 finishers started 10th or worse at the beginning of the feature. Grabouski (11th), Fuqua (10th) & Josh Blumer (14th).
Ronnie Burkhardt in a limited schedule for 2016 looked like a veteran last week hanging on to the lead for quite a while before finishing in the 4th spot.

Modified Driver To Watch This Week…. Kyle Olberding #75, Seneca, KS.

Kyle Olberding has seen his ups and downs so far this season. It’s not been that long ago since Olberding won the IMCA N. Sport Mod Championship at Thunder Hill Speedway. He has the capability to run up front, it’s just a matter of Olberding putting it all together. It’s a competitive class, the Modified division, but it’s one that Olberding is capable of handling the pressure. The more laps he gets under his belt this season the better of he gets. Last week he had a top 10 finishing in 8th. Keep an eye on him and see if he doesn’t better that effort this week.

Buds Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Notes…
Matt Haid ran a good race last week. He came up just a bit short on the track. In the tech inspection area he gained his ground back and won the feature. The win put Haid back in the points lead again.
Last week was another race night that saw for the 20 IMCA Stock Cars compete on a single night.
A new face, Michael Pepper, showed up and put on a good run going from 12th to 3rd in the main event.
49 different racers have battled it out on the season, so far, at Thunder Hill Speedway.
How exciting can this class get? It seems that every week they do something else that surprises the fans every race night.

Stock Car Driver to Watch This Week…. Jim Powell Jr. #20P, Lecompton, KS.

Powell headed into victory lane last week on his way to maintaining his point lead and claiming a winning check of $475. Unfortunately, post race tech inspection found a flaw in Powells program and it earned him a move from the front to the back of the standings in the feature results. Not only did it move him to the bottom, it also allowed Matt Haid to take over the points lead. Powell will move on and you bet he will come back with a vengeance this week. Look for Powell to try and roll into victory lane and regain his points lead. He will give it is best, so keep an eye on him Powell will be putting on a show!

JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod Notes…
Brian Murphy had to hold off some challenges in getting his 2nd win of the season. Murphy has to know that going down the stretch the competition is only going to get stiffer.
Kyle Stallbaumer continues to shine in the N. Sport Mod division. Last week he finished in the 2nd spot. It seems like the last 3 to 4 races he has been in the top 5.
Getting caught up in a yellow early on in the feature, Bryan Rigsby, had a strong night coming all the way back up through the field to finish in the 6th spot.

Northern Sport Mod Driver To Watch This Week…. Brian Murphy #1M, Carbondale, KS.

We are going out on a limb once again in our driver choice for this week, Brian Murphy. Yes Murphy is one of the hottest drivers racing at Thunder Hill Speedway. Last week he became the first driver to repeat as a feature winner in the Northern Sport Mods. It’s almost possible that Murphy, realistically, could have 3 to 4 wins. We have chosen Murphy for a reason, we want to see how he handles the pressure at the front of the pack. Can he keep it up? Or will he start to decline? We will find out this Saturday!

Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Notes…
38 Different drivers have raced at Thunder Hill Speedway in the Hobby Stocks.
Larry Bouton was the underdog story last week pulling out a win in a car that he has raced only 2 times this season. It could mean trouble for the competition.
Jaylen Wettengel & Levi Henery are a couple of youngsters in the Hobby Stock division and last week they both finished 4th and 5th respectively.
The points leader, Ryan Sutter, came up just short last week finishing 2nd. Sutter did maintain his points lead.
This season’s points battle is a good one. Only 38 points separate the top 6 drivers in the class.

Hobby Stock Driver To Watch This Week….Raymond Bosch #97, Effingham, KS.

Raymond Bosch is one of those drivers that can run up front. He just has to avoid all he mechanical issues and driver issues that tend to plague him from time to time. Bosch has been to Pit Pass Victory Lane before. He is capable of getting the job done, it’s that simple. Will this be the weekend that Raymond Bosch, the feature winner, shows up. My guess it will be. He has a couple of sub par efforts, but something tells me that he will be bringing his A Game this Saturday night.
