Mayetta, KS – The Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on the Hill is always an exciting time each and every Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway.

It was a race that nobody could have predicted for the JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mods on Saturday night.

After a last place finish in the 1st heat race of the night, Jacob Davis wasn’t thinking about a win he was wanting to just get out for the feature and make some laps and try to come home with a solid finish. Everything after that is just a blur to Davis or was Davis a blur to everyone else?

As the feature got underway Brandon Spanjer took to the top spot, but he had a lot of company with him. Brian Murphy, Lance Borgman and Kyle Stallbaumer all fighting for the win with Spanjer.

The great racing at the front of the pack was overshadowed by a quite, Davis, who was picking off the competition one by one.

The story gets wild as the leaders looked to finish out the main event.

Spanjer had a decent lead on Murphy as the exited turn 2, heading down the back stretch Kyle Stallbaumer had a massive run and closed in quickly on Murphy. The two would make contact and Kyle Stallbaumer would receive the black flag for rough driving. This would give Murphy his spot back in the 2nd position. Murphy would now have a chance to battle Spanjer at the front on the restart.

On the restart Murphy did challenge for the lead. Coming to the white flag Murphy got to the inside of Spanjer in turn 4. Once again contact would be made by the front 2 cars and this time it was Murphy receiving the black flag for rough driving. The final chance at finishing the race with a green, white, checkered was about to be tried one more time.

This time a new player was behind Spanjer, Jacob Davis. That’s right Davis, who started 24th, was now in the 2nd spot on the final restart.

The green flag waved a Davis took no time in working around Spanjer on the high side. Worst to first went Davis as he took the white flag. Davis would hold the lead on the final lap and gained his 1st win at Thunder Hill Speedway.

2nd went to Spanjer, Jeremy Pittsenbarger drove from 17th to finish 3rd, 4th was Jaylen Wettengel with a strong run and Austin Charles, who was involved in the first yellow of the night went to the rear and fought his way back up to finish 5th.

Before the Conkwright’s bought Thunder Hill Speedway there was a Modified driver who won consecutive titles at Thunder Hill Speedway early in his career. That driver, Darron Fuqua, is now back at Thunder Hill Speedway competing full time in the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified division. Fuqua’s season has been filled with ups and downs. Saturday night was surely a high point of the season.

Tom Charles took advantage of a strong start and jumped out in the lead spot during the feature. Charles would lead several laps as Fuqua quickly made his way around traffic and blasted into the 2nd spot. Also coming with Fuqua was the points leader in the division, Jordan Grabouski.

Grabouski was in a borrowed ride Saturday night from Dylan Smith. Grabouski hurt his car in a crash on Friday night. The borrowed car worked just like his primary ride as he was fast.

The top 3 cars would battle with one another before Fuqua and Grabouski would move into the top 2 spots. A yellow would bunch the field up and it would set up the battle between Fuqua and Grabouski.

The battle never developed and Fuqua would speed away with his 1st win of the season at Thunder Hill Speedway.

Grabouski maintained the points lead and finished in the runner-up spot, Brendon Gemmill put on a nice show going from 11th to 3rd, Charles would hold on to finish 4th and rounding out the top 5 was Justin Jergens.

Anytime you put the Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Cars on the track you need to keep your eyes peeled for anything and everything. Lap after lap these pilots put on some of the best racing exhibitions.

Saturday night was no exception. A total of 7 drivers had a chance at the top spot during the entire feature. Unfortunately, one driver is beginning to be too tough to tame at Thunder Hill Speedway.

Tim Pruett, Marvin Griffith Jr., Anthony Deters, Brandon Conkwright, Matt Haid and a host of others would go side by side for the first few laps. As the field shook it’s way out Griffith would take the lead. Conkwright and Haid would apply the pressure early. The battles that raged from the top spot through 8th place were outstanding.

The battle for the top spot would be between Griffith and Haid. Haid, the current points leader and multiple time feature winner in 2016, was too strong on this night. Griffith would put up a good battle, but in the end it would be Haid sprinting to another victory.

As Haid picked up the win, he also added to his points lead over the competition.

Griffith would finish 2nd, 3rd went to a hard charging Kyle Pfeifer, ‘Kid Rocket’, Brandon Conkwright, raced his way to a 4th place finish and 5th would go to Jim Powell Jr.

There is freight train running away from the competition in the Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Nicholas Ronnebaum struggled in his heat race early in the night and it forced him to start 11th in the feature for the Hobby Stocks.

It didn’t matter where Ronnebaum started. He was on a mission to do 1 thing and 1 thing only, win his 5th race of the season. Mission accomplished.

Larry Bouton Jr., Byron Glotzbach and Raymond Bosch were all at the front of the field. As they battled with the competition Ronnebaum was on the move. Lap after lap Ronnebaum moved forward. Before long he was knocking at the back door of the leader, Bouton. Ronnebaum kicked the door in and drove away to win #5 on the season.

The win for Ronnebaum also put him in the hunt for the championship. Ronnebaum now trails Ryan Sutter by 18 points with 3 races to go.

Bouton put together another great finish in 2nd, Bosch held on for a 3rd place finish, 4th would go to Glotzbach and finishing 5th was Brady Bencken, who started 10th.

The racing action continues next Saturday night August 13th for more of the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on The Hill.
