Topeka, KS – It was another night of fast racing at Heartland Park Topeka for the Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown.

Sometimes a person has to take a break to move forward in life. A break rejuvenates you, a break can give you a new perspective and a break can give you new life on the race track!

Maybe it can?

Jeremy Chambers had been on a bit of a hiatus from racing at Heartland Park Topeka. Sunday night he returned back to the track with one goal in mind, pick up a victory.

The night started out with a 2nd place run in his heat, but due to being gone for a long period of time he would have to start inside row number 5 for the feature event.

The BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified Feature watched Tom Charles jump out to the early lead in the main event. A series of yellow flags bunched the field up and kept them tight on the speedway. Chambers worked his way up into the 2nd spot, behind Charles, rather quickly. Chambers would hound Charles, but he couldn’t get by him.

As the race wore on Charles’ modified began to tighten up. One push up the track was all Chambers needed to get by into the top spot. Not only was Chambers there to battle Charles, so was Steven Bowers Jr.

Another late race yellow would bunch the group up one more time and the battle at the front was on again between Chambers and Charles. Chambers would answer the bell and hang on for his 1st win of the season at Heartland Park Topeka.

Bowers would drag race Charles to the finish, replicating the finish from July 17th, and score the runner-up spot, a very close 3rd was Charles, Clay Money raced his way to a 4th place finish and Scott Brown raced his way from 12th to 5th in the feature event.

In the Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA N. Sport Mod Feature it should have been the ‘it ain’t over till it’s over’ feature!

Matthew Crowell was at Heartland Park Topeka for just his 2nd time this season. Crowell got out to the lead early and he would hold that lead for a majority of the race.

As Crowell was in the lead, Brian Murphy was all over him. Murphy kept pace with Crowell all night long. Late in the race the top 2 cars ran into lapped traffic. Crowell was leading the way and Murphy had closed closer than he had all night long. As the two got ready to come to the white flag, Crowell got by a lapped car but Murphy would not have the same fate.

As Murphy worked the low grove, he would make hard contact with the lapped car. Enough damage that it took him out of the feature he was in contention for. It set up a green white checkered finish.

After the first attempt, a second attempt was needed. On this attempt, Curtis Dreasher, the winner from opening night, put on a late race power move that sent him by Crowell for the top spot. Once in the top spot Dreasher would not relinquish the lead as he roared to his 2nd win of the season in the N. Sport Mods.

Crowell would come home in 2nd, Austin Charles finished in the 3rd spot, Brian Davidson worked his way to a hard fought 4th place finish and Derek Huffman scored a nice finish coming in 5th.

There was a dominating performance tonight in the Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Car Feature.

Dominic Thyfault had a fast car in his heat race. Thyfault blistered up the track in his heat race until he would spin in turn 1 while in the lead.

During the feature he vowed to himself not to make the same mistake again. He sure didn’t. All Thyfault did was blast his way to the front of the pack and ran away with his 2nd feature win of the season at Heartland Park Topeka.

Thyfault looked as if he was in his own area code on Sunday night.

The battle for 2nd on back was a dandy as several drivers took their chance at running down the leader.

Eric Weyer, who has been racing only part time this year, worked his way back and forth during the feature before getting the 2nd spot at the finish, Shane Wettengel started in 9th and raced to a 3rd place finish, 4th was Steve Herrick and the points leader Brandon Conkwright rounded out the top 5 in 5th.

Attrition might have been a good way to describe the Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Hobby Stock Feature on Sunday night.

Several cars left bruised, bent and banged up on Sunday night.

In the end it was Chris Lierz getting his 1st win at Heartland Park Topeka.

It wasn’t an easy win as Lierz had to work his way up from his 4th row outside starting position and then he had to hold off Jaylen Wettengel and Larry Bouton Jr. to gain the victory. Bouton would become the 7th different feature winner on the season.

Wettengel managed to finish 2nd, Bouton was 3rd, 4th went to Randy Kohn and Adam Fleagle started 10th and finished 5th in the feature.

More of the Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown fires up next Sunday night, August 21st! Make plans to be there now as you don’t want to miss any of the action.
