Mayetta, KS – The action is starting to wind down for the season at Thunder Hill Speedway. This Saturday Night, August 20th, the action will get hot and heavy as the points battles get ready to head into championship night next week. Not only will all the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on the Hill IMCA classes be on the schedule, race fans get another bonus helping of the NCRA/NeSmith Late Models!

That’s right the Late Models will be joining the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds, Bud’s Auto Service IMCA Stock Cars, JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mods and Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stocks.

What more can a race fan ask for? In 2016 the Thunder Hill Speedway staff has bent over backwards bringing more great racing and specials to the fans. The only sad thing is that there are only 2 race nights left on the season!

RACE NOTES!!!

What Happened Last Race Out at the Big Time Bail Bonds Clash on The Hill…
Last Saturday night saw one of the closest finishes ever in Thunder Hill Speedway history! Matt Haid turned in a perfect last corner lap pass of Dominic Thyfault for a win by mere inches. Jacob Davis showed his win 2 weeks ago was no fluke as he rode his hot rod back into Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane again last week. Jordan Grabouski flexed his muscle by lapping almost half the field on the way to his victory in the Modified division. Win #6 was in the cards for Nicholas Ronnebaum as he took home another victory in the Hobby Stock class.

Setting the Table For This Week!

BSB Manufacturing Modified Notes…
Jordan Grabouski maintained his points lead after getting another win last Saturday night. Not only did he keep the track points lead, he still is shown on top of the IMCA Modified National standings.
For yet another time this season Darron Fuqua drove to a runner up finish last week. Fuqua is closest to Grabo in the points 55 back and that’s with missing an entire race.
This season the Modified division has been a very competitive division. Several drivers have had banner years. Success is a relative term. Not everyone has to be in victory lane to deem their night a success.
Last week’s ‘Hard Charger’ was Grabouski as he went from 8th to 1st.

Modified Driver To Watch This Week…. Jordan Grabouski #30, Beatrice, NE.

Yes, we are going out on a limb here picking Grabouski as the driver to watch this week. There is a reason behind the choice and it’s a good one. With 2 weeks left to go in the race season Grabouski is looking for a track and national championship. Nothing would help his chances more than a victory. Keep an eye on the 30 and see what he does this week.

Buds Auto Service IMCA Stock Car Notes…
Last week’s race was epic. Dominic Thyfault led to the last corner. At that time Matt Haid, the current points leader, pulled along side him coming out of turn 4 and won the drag race by inches at the stripe.
Thyfault said that he didn’t want to mess up in the last corner and that he didn’t know Haid was there until they came out of turn 4. It’s a shame that someone had to be on the losing side of this one, but from a fans perspective it was AWESOME!
Eric Weyer and Haid were the ‘Hard Chargers’ in the class last week. Haid went from 9th to 1st and Weyer went from 16th to 8th in the feature.
38 points separate 2nd place Jim Powell Jr. in the points from the leader Matt Haid. Mathematically there are a few drivers still alive but they are going to need a lot of help.
It has been a banner year for the Stock Cars. Several great races and finishes have highlighted the 2016 race season.

Stock Car Driver to Watch This Week…. Eric Weyer #C15, Centralia, KS.

Eric Weyer has been hit and miss this season behind the wheel. Not because he had has issues or problems. We say this because he doesn’t get to race as much as he used to. Weyer has other duties, such as his children or the farm he and his brother have. When he has been able to get away and race he is a driver to contend with. Last week he went from 16th to 8th in the feature. Watch this week and see if he can’t better that 8th place finish from a week ago.

JAG Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Mod Notes…
Welcome back to victory lane Mr. Davis. Jacob Davis for the 2nd straight week raced his way to a win. Not bad considering the first Sport Mod Feature win of his career happened the week before!
Brothers, Luke & Kyle Stallbaumer, battled it out for a 2nd and 3rd finish. Over the past 2 months these 2 have been at, or near, the front of the pack.
Last week it was a quiet run for Bryan Rigsby the ‘Hard Charger’. Rigsby started 23rd and finished 7th in the A Main. Not a bad run.
Hats off to the youngster, Jaylen Wettengel. For another week Wettengel was up near the front of the pack finishing 4th in the main. Since picking up a crate motor Wettengel has become a very tough competitor.
Austin Charles continues to lead the points in this division. With 2 races left he carries a 23 point cushion.

Northern Sport Mod Driver To Watch This Week…. Jaylen Wettengel #91J, Topeka, KS.

2 week’s ago, Jaylen Wettengel led a lot of laps during the feature and this week he followed it up with a 4th place finish. Wettengel and his team have gotten a shot in the arm and look to finish the season with a win. Since getting that new crate motor it does seem like a possibility that he can get the job done. Watch the 91J this week and see if this isn’t his week to get a win.

Casey’s General Store IMCA Hobby Stock Notes…
Nicholas Ronnebaum logged win #6 on the season last week. Ronnebaum has been one bad fast racer all season long. If it weren’t for a couple of bad finishes he might be in the points lead. None-the-less, Ronnebaum is still hunting the points championship. As 2 races remain he is now 2nd by just 10 points. This could be the best points battle at Thunder Hill this season.
A few newcomers invaded the Hobby Stocks last week and they didn’t do to bad either. Luke Ramsey (Iowa) finished 2nd, Tommy Meyers (Iowa) finished 3rd, Andy Davison (Iowa) finished 5th and Kiel Brittain (Missouri) came home 6th.
Larry Bouton Jr. finished again with another top 5 in 4th last week. The new car seems to be a good fit for Bouton.
23 Hobby Stocks checked in to do battle last week. It was one of the highest car counts of the season for the Hobby Stocks.

Hobby Stock Driver To Watch This Week….Cody Williams #77, Minneapolis, KS.

Cody Williams has been at Thunder Hill Speedway off and on this season. Last week it wasn’t a good showing for Williams as he finished 13th after being sent to the rear of the field for jumping the start. Williams is currently 2nd in State IMCA points for Kansas, so you know that he is capable of running up front. If he returns this week keep an eye on the #77 and see if he can go to the front.
