Topeka, KS – Sometimes you have to play the hand you were dealt.

Sunday night at the Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown the racers had to play the hand they were dealt as they got ready to race.

Over an inch of rain fell on the speedway late Friday night. This meant that Mother Nature would have a hand in getting the track ready for the night’s event. A heavy, tacky and rough race track would throw some of the racers a curve as they tried to prep for what they wanted to do in the features.

It was just a week ago that Curtis Dreasher past Matthew Crowell late in the race to take home the win in the Jersey Mike’s Subs IMCA Northern Sport Mod A Main.

This week Crowell was in the same position. Crowell would battle early with Jaylen Wettengel for the top spot. The two looked like heavyweight fighters who were dropping hay makers on each other. That was until Crowell got the upper hand.

The feature this week would be a different story. Crowell made his car work better than 99% of the competition. Crowell would take home the win and becomes the 7th different feature winner in the Sport Mod division.

Austin Charles, 2nd in points, snuck by his dad, Dan Charles, at the flag stand for the runner-up spot. Dan Charles would finish 3rd. Fourth would go to Wettengel and rounding out the top 5 was Curtis Dreasher, who is currently the points leader, finished in the 5th spot.

It was another stellar finish in the Cars 4 Less Stock Car A Main.

Christine Holt and Eric Weyer battled at the front of the pack in this one, that was until Josh Everhart blasted to the lead.

Everhart would hang on to the lead throughout and on the white flag lap a yellow flag would come out setting up the proverbial green, white, checkered finish. Before they could get back to racing action, Everhart would develop a left front flat on his car and had to retire from the race.

When the green flag flew again it was Eric Weyer battling with the points leader Brandon Conkwright.

It came down to the final corner. Weyer would go up high in turn 4 and it allowed Conkwright to get a run in the middle of 4. As Conkwright headed down the front straight he would move up on the track squeezing Weyer and taking away his momentum. Conkwright would get to the flagstand first with Weyer right behind him. It would be Conkwright’s 2nd win of the season.

Leif Weyer had another strong run finishing in 3rd, 4th went to Christine Holt and Steve Herrick rounded out the top 5 in 5th.

The BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified A Main became the war of attrition on the speedway.

By the end of the night all the races on the track had taken it’s toll, but the Modified drivers were up to the task.

With Jordan Grabouski out of the lineup Steven Bowers Jr. and Tom Charles would sit center stage in the points battle heading into next week’s championship night.

Bowers would take the advantage heading into the finale. Bowers was able to find the best line around the track that would put his fast hot rod at the front of the pack and he would stay out in front till the finish picking up his 2nd win of the season. It just happened that he won also on his mom’s birthday, giving her that extra, special present.

Charles was sitting in the 3rd spot on the restart, but he would not be able to catch the runner up Jared Rogers as he raced his way to a 2nd place finish. Scott Brown found some bite late and was able to pull ahead of Charles and finished 3rd, 4th would go to Charles, who started 13th on the night, and 5th went to Anthony Tanner.

The Casey’s General Store saw another new feature winner after it’s feature was over.

Mike Traskowsky started back in the 10th spot in the feature, but it was apparent that he was one of the fast cars on the speedway.

Taskowsky found his way to the front quickly and it was Tyler Hinrichs that gave chase. Traskowsky would hold the line and the top spot at the front of the pack and it afforded him the ability to build a nice lead.

Hinrichs, lap after lap, began to eat away at the lead hoping to set up a challenge at the finish.

The challenge would never come as Traskowsky took the checkered flag for his 1st win of the season at Heartland Park Topeka.

Hinrichs would nail down the 2nd spot, 3rd went to Randy Kohn, Dalton Ronnebaum, the points leader, finished 4th and 5th would go to a hard charging Larry Bouton, who started all the way back in 12th!

Next week is the Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown Championship Night. All the divisions will crown their champions next Sunday night. Make plans to attend today!
