Kansas City, KS – Lakeside Speedway enjoyed a grand re-opening last Friday night. It was the 2nd largest opening night crowd, since the track returned to dirt back in 2000. A full field of cars battled it out in 3 of the 4 weekly racing divisions. As the threat of weather neared, Lakeside Speedway officials pulled off the races in 2 ours and 25 minutes. In short opening night could be called a “Huge Success!”

This Friday, April 20, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., Lakeside Speedway will go for a repeat of night on Creative Concrete Night at The Races.

It had been 9 months since Lakeside held it’s last event. Fans, racers, sponsors and employees had longed to get back into the swing of things. Opening night was a sigh of relief for all involved.

“I just wanted to get back to the track and get it going,” said Marc Olson, “the fans, the racers, sponsors, everyone we all needed this.”

What everyone needed was for the track to open up and the racing to resume and did the racing every resume!

In the Modified division, ‘Smokin’ Joe Walker moved out into the early lead. It wouldn’t be long before Cody Agler came up to challenge Walker at the front of the field. Two times Agler made the pass on Walker, but each would be negated as the yellow flag came out stopping the competition.

Upon a restart Agler took the lead only to have his engine expire several laps later. This event handed the lead over to veteran Tim Karrick. Karrick would lead the rest of the event and took the opening win of the season.

Gary Donaldson has been racing for quite some time. He has built up a list of things he has and has not done. He can mark off that list that he has never won a feature on opening night. His win last week enabled him to make that change on his list. Donaldson got around Jim Baker on his way to the victory.

In typical fashion the Factory Stock feature was an exciting race. Several competitors swapped the top spot, but in the end it was Joe Smith Jr. crossing the finishline first. Action throughout the field went back and forth as the racers sliced and diced their way through the field.

A large number of B Mods (32) came to Lakeisde Speedway last Friday night. All across the midwest this class is seeing a boost in car count. A year ago the largest count of B Mods at the track had been 22. It looks as if the field could grow even larger in 2012.

Mike Higley, a feature winner from 2011, rolled to the first win of the season in the B Mods. Higley has started out 3 for 3 in his new chassis and will try to make it 4 for 4 this Friday night.

As the racing action heated up last week, it should continue to get even hotter this week. Look for more great racing and fantastic finishes this week at Lakeside Speedway!

Adult tickets are $12 Friday night, kids 8 to 14 are just $6 and children 7 and under are FREE at Lakeside Speedway.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7 p.m. and the first race goes green, promptly, at 7:30 p.m.
