Familiar Faces Meet In Victory Lane At BriggsAuto.Com Speedway

Kerry Davis #68 held on for the win after working his way around the #1k of Tim Karrick. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Topeka, KS – It was like any high school reunion in victory lane at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway on Saturday night. Each of the winners, Kerry Davis (Washburn Tech Modifieds), Terry Schmidt (Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stocks), Mike Higley (White Line CDL Training B Mods) and Randal Schiffelbein Jr. (Casey’s General Store Pure Stocks), had all won features this season.

Kerry Davis joined the group after winning his 2nd feature of the season. In the Modified division only Darron Fuqua had multiple victories on his resume, but after tonight, he will have company.

It took 3 tries for the Washburn Tech Modified Feature event to get underway and when they did, Tim Karrick took to the early lead on the night.

Karrick would lead 16 laps of the feature, but Davis made his presence known just before a yellow flag would slow the field down.

Davis started in the 5th position during the feature. As the early laps clicked off he battle with former feature winner, Jared Rogers. In a struggle, Davis would dispose of Rogers and then eat into the lead of Karrick. Near lap 15 Davis had erased the lead that Karrick had put up on the competition. Davis would make his move around Karrick and take the lead, only to see a yellow flag come out. The yellow would temporarily move Davis to the 2nd spot again.

As the race restarted it didn’t take long for Davis to make his move once again. Karrick knew that Davis preferred the low line around the track. Karrick would take the low line away from Davis hoping to steal his momentum. In doing so, it opened a new door for Davis. He would pick up some momentum running higher up on the track. Davis motored his way around Karrick coming out of turn two and from there it was the Davis to the checkers.

Karrick would hold on for 2nd, 3rd went to Josh Everhart, 4th went to, the hard charging, Tom Grist and Cody Agler rounded out the top 5 in 5th.

In the White Line CDL Training B Mod A Main Mike Higley stood tall in victory lane once again. This would be the 3rd straight win for the driver out of Tecumseh, KS and it was his 5th overall.

After winning 7 features last season in the B Mods, Higley is on pace for that and a little more in 2012. Saturday night at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway he had to work a little harder for win #5.

Lucas Isaacs jumped out to the early lead from his front row starting spot. Behind Isaacs several cars were mixing it up from the 2nd spot on back. Brian Murphy, Dustin Thulin, Dylan Whitehead, Higley and Ethan Isaacs, were all trying to get around each other and find that coveted top spot.

Higley, who started 5th in the feature, would move up to 3rd before a yellow bunched the field up. On the restart Higley moved around Thulin for the 3rd spot and quickly jumped by the leader Isaacs. Going into turn 1, Higley would put a drive on the outside of the leader and it gave him the top spot exiting turn number 2.

Too many times this season Higley has been out front and seen things go bad. In that same breathe when Higley is out in front and nothing goes wrong, he is usually going to make to the checkered flag first. His car would not let him down on this night as he drove to win #5 on the season.

The Isaac brothers would make Higley work for the win after a late race yellow. Ethan Isaacs, the current point leader in the division, would come home 2nd and Lucas would finish in 3rd. Thulin would finish in the 4th spot and 5th went to the veteran, Terry Bivins.

Someone might need to look up the word domination to describe the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock division this season. Terry Schmidt is having a great season this year and it continued Saturday night as drove off to win number 7 in just 10 races.

A new hot shoe came calling from Independence, KS, Scott Stuart. Stuart has dominated the Factory Stock class in the Southeast portion of Kansas and Saturday night decided to race at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway. Many fans were salivating at the possible showdown of Schmidt vs. Stuart. The showdown would never materialize on the night, but fans can be assured that if Stuart continues to race at HPT the match-up will happen.

Schmidt jumped to the lead at the beginning of the feature as he would start on the front row again this week. From there he shoved his car out to a large lead.

Zach Henery would keep pace with Schmidt. The former feature winner in the Factory Stock class this season, continues to get even faster. Henery would start 4th in the A Main, but at the drop of the green flag he tucked into the 2nd place spot and would not relinquish it for the entire feature.

Stuart finished in 3rd, 4th went to Steve Herrick and Dustin Sievers finished with one of his best runs of 2012 finishing in 5th.

The dream season continues for the #11JR of Randal Schiffelbein Jr. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

The ‘Feel Good’ Story of 2012 has to be in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock class.

Randal Schiffelbein Jr. has been the point leader for several weeks now. Heading into Saturday night Schiffelbein also had 2 wins to his credit. Hard to believe that he is just embarking on his racing career.

Last night Tyler Garst took off from his front row starting spot to lead the opening lap of the main event. He would hang on to the lead for a couple of laps, then at that point he would hook up and battle side by side with Schiffelbein.

The two would go door-to-door around the track before Schiffelbein would get the lead. After taking the lead the question would be can Schiffelbein hold on for the win?

Jesse Shotts, a 4 time feature winner this season, started back in the 7th position. Would he have enough time to get to the front of the field? Would he be able to get around Schiffelbein if he could get to him?

The answers would come soon enough.

Schiffelbein and Shotts would run 1 and 2 on the speedway. As the white flag came out Schiffelbein had a couple of car lengths on Shotts. Schiffelbein completed his great run with a flawless final lap. Shotts would not have the chance to make the pass as Schiffelbein would maintain the lead as he rolled under the flag stand for win number 3 on the season. The win would also mean that he would maintain his points lead in the division.

The racing action continues at BiggsAuto.Com Speedway as the Super Saturday Showdown Series race #11 will be on the docket.

Spectator gates will open at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m. and the first race will go green at 7:30 p.m.
