Steve Bowers Sr. Memorial Packs Extra $ In For Racers

Topeka, KS – Tragedy is never far from anyone. Just a few short years ago, a local racing family lost their patriarch, Steve Bowers Sr.

For years Bowers had raced in the Topeka area. Street Stocks, Grand Nationals to B Mods, Bowers was always a competitor. He shared the love of racing with his family. His son, Steven Bowers Jr., has been a multiple time track champion in the modified division at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway. Steve’s wife, Vicky, and youngest son, Brian, also come to the races religiously every week. This week they will get a chance to celebrate the life of their lost loved one as Saturday night, July 7, BriggsAuto.Com Speedway hosts the 3rd Annual Steve Bowers Sr. Memorial!

Extra money will be added to each of the 4 weekly classes. The Washburn Tech Modified winner will receive a $1,000, $400 will go to the White Line CDL Training B Mod winner, the Super 8 at Forbes Landing winner will pocket $350 and for winning the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock feature the winner will get $225.

Not that any of these divisions needed extra money as an incentive to put on a great show. Since the start of the 2012 season, racing at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway has been 2nd to none!

After a wild ending to a weird night last Saturday, the racers are ready to get back behind the wheel.

Cody Agler won his 2nd Washburn Tech Modified feature of the season one week ago. Due to the wild weather the action during the feature was shortened to 20 laps, but Agler had the field covered.

The points battle is still shaping up. Last season’s champ, Darron Fuqua, still holds the top spot, but with the win Agler is slowly climbing the ladder.

In the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock A Main Terry Schmidt sped off to his 8th win of the season. Schmidt has got his car dialed in and a spot of luck doesn’t hurt either. Due to BriggsAuto.Com Speedway starting procedures for the last 4 weeks Schmidt has started on the front row. Is this going to be week number 5 on the front row? Time will tell.

As Schmidt racked up 8 wins, he also has a nice lead in the points standings. Steve Herrick is in 2nd and trying to move up.

A late race restart in the White Line CDL Training B Mod feature saw Dustin Thulin drive past 3 cars to take the lead. From there he dropped the hammer and won his 1st B Mod feature at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway in 2012.

Ethan Isaacs holds a 59 point lead over Terry Bivins in the points. Mike Higley, by virtue of not racing last week, dropped from 2nd to 3rd in the points standings.

Jesse Shotts and Randal Schiffelbein have been the class of the field in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock division. Last week it was Shott’s turn up front. Shotts won his 5th feature last Saturday night. He drove around the competition and made it look easy.

After a slow start to the season Shotts is beginning to heat up and the points battle could be coming down to the wire in this class.

Kids in attendance will also be involved in a ‘Candy Call’ at intermission. Kids will have the opportunity to go down on to the track and take away some candy thanks to Heartland Park Topeka. Saturday night also will have a ton of activities for the family. Plan on coming out to honor Steve Bowers Sr. and stay for another great night of racing packed with extra money on the line!

Adult tickets are $10, kids 12 and under $5 and Military with ID always FREE! Don’t forget you can also purchase your tickets online at www.hpt.com.

Spectator gates will open up at 5:30, hot laps begin at 6:45 p.m. and the races get going at 7:30 p.m.
