Fuqua Uses Late Race Heroics, Schiffelbein Pulls In A 2-Fer, Henery Wins 2nd & Lucas Isaacs Wins 1st!

Not to be mistaken, the #6 of Lucas Isaacs blasts to his 1st feature win at HPT. Reed Bros. Racing Photos.

Topeka, KS – Christmas in July invaded BriggsAuto.Com Speedway Saturday night. Santa and a couple of elves were on hand and they had a chance to watch some great racing!

It was just a week ago that Lucas Isaacs name was incorrectly credited to a picture for his brother, Ethan, who had just won his 1st White Line CDL Training B Mod A Main.

After 7 days, it wasn’t enough to print a retraction on the photo, Lucas had to go out and do something better than that, he won his 1st B Mod Feature on Saturday night.

Lucas didn’t take long getting to the front of the field. Once there it was only time before 1 of several competitors began to put some pressure on him. The field would be held up by a few yellows and a delay for a light issue on the speedway.

After an early race yellow, Steven Goodman put the most pressure on Isaacs. At one point it looked as if Goodman was going to take the lead. In true fashion the younger of the two Isaacs brothers roared back on the high side of the track and would pull away to the momentous victory.

It was a fitting tribute on the front straight as the Ethan gave Lucas a little ‘Fist Bump’ before heading into victory lane.

Goodman held on for the 2nd spot, 3rd went to Ethan Isaacs, the point leader who drove from 9th to 3rd, Bryan Rigsby finished 4th and Dustin Thulin finished in the 5th spot.

Darron Fuqua has been described as a smooth driver, he has been described as an aggressive driver and now they can throw calculating in as another adjective.

Saturday night, for the 2nd straight week, Fuqua sat in the 2nd spot late in the Washburn Tech Modified Feature.

The previous week he drove Jason Kiems car to victory lane with a late lap pass of Steven Bowers Jr. and tonight it was like deja vu. This time it was young Tyler Schmidt holding down the top spot.

Schmidt, coming off a good showing on Friday night, started off the feature by taking the point position. While green flag laps clicked off, Schmidt was content to build up a nice advantage. Unfortunately for Schmidt there were a few yellows coming that would bunch up the field and erase the advantage he had. Drivers who had to start further back in the A were slowly climbing their way to the front. Three time feature winner, Darron Fuqua, happened to be one of those drivers.

Fuqua picked off the competition one at a time. Once he shot to the 2nd spot, Fuqua waited to make his move for the lead. He would try the high line, but it seemed to stall out. Comintgout of turn 2 Fuqua pulled to the inside of Schmidt. This move would bring the two leaders side by side. Heading into turn 3 Fuqua would gain the top spot.

Schmidt didn’t go away he blasted back at Fuqua and on the white flag lap it was anyone’s guess who would win it. As the two cars went into turns 1 and 2, Fuqua looked to close the door on Schmidt as they exited 2. Schmidt would spin the tires and that was all the advantage Fuqua needed to drive to the checkers for his 4th win of the season.

Second would go to Schmidt, Dustin Boney worked his way to a 3rd place finish, Steven Bowers Jr. drove to a 3rd place finish and Tim Karrick battled to a 5th place finish.

The Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock class has become predictable. Tonight, before the races, are heard several people talk about Terry Schmidt was going to win his 10th feature of the season. Nobody can beat him. Good thing for the rest of the Factory Stock class, the officials at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway decided to go ahead and race instead of just giving the check to Schmidt.

Three other drivers have won features this season in the Factory Stock class. Steve Herrick, Jeff Miller and Zach Henery have all been in victory lane in 2012. Tonight, Henery rolled to his 2nd win of the season. He did it by wiring the field from start to finish.

Henery rocketed out to the early lead past Frank Jaynes. At the front of the field all Henery had to do was make it through all the yellows and fend off all the challenges that would come his way. The yellows came around, but the challenge for the top spot never did. It was an impressive race for Henery. He held a consistent line all night long and it paid off in a big way at the end of the night.

Five is the magic number for Randal Schiffelbein Jr. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

During the first feature of the night, Randal Schiffelbein Jr. won his his 2nd straight Casey’s General Store Pure Stock main event.

Matt Field finished in the 2nd spot, 3rd went to Schmidt, 4th was Frank Jaynes and 5th went to Steve Herrick.

A large number of competitors, once again, showed up at Heartland Park Topeka looking for fame and glory. Schiffelbein seems to be the one that has found it first.

The win was his 5th of the season and 5th in his short racing career. As he has five wins, Schiffelbein also maintains the points lead in the class. He knows just how important and impressive it would be to win the points championship and the most features in his 1st year racing.

Saturday night developed into being another one of those Schiffelbein/Shotts matchups. The two drivers got to the front early, but on a restart a new player emerged into the game, Lafe Garst.
Garst put a move on Shotts and took away the 2nd spot, but while Garst was celebrating his strong run the ‘Gods of Racing’ dealt him a bad hand. A flat tire in the middle of the race. It took him out of the money, but it provided fans with hope that this class will not be a two car race down the stretch.

Shotts would come back to finish 2nd, 3rd would go to Tyler Garst, 4th was Byron Glotzbach and rounding out the top 5 was AJ Christian.

Race #14 for the Super Saturday Showdown Series at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway gets underway next Saturday night, July 21st!
