Topeka, KS – For a few weeks now, BriggsAuto.Com Speedway has not seen a new winner in victory lane. All of the 4 divisions that run on a weekly basis saw repeat winners week after week. That changed on Saturday night as 3 new features winners, Tyler Garst (Casey’s General Store Pure Stock), Brian Murphy (White Line CDL Training B Mod) and Josh Everhart (Washburn Tech Modified), raced their way into victory lane.

After Saturday night’s event 29 different feature winners have stopped off in victory lane. It’s a number that is up from the total number of winners from just a year ago. The surprise of the season has to the number of double digit winners in the Washburn Tech Modified division (10). The White Line CDL Training B Mod division also has 10 different winners at this point of the season too. Six races remain, possibly 7, the number could go up from here.

This week it was Josh Everhart’s turn in victory lane as he became the 10th different feature winner this season in the Washburn Tech Modified class. It was only a month ago that Everhart stated that he found a couple things out about his new SB Chassis and thought that he was going to become more competitive.

At the start of the main event, Everhart would duel Darron Fuqua, 5 time feature winner, as they would both start on the front row. From the drop of the green flag the two aces went around the track side by side before Everhart would win the battle by taking the lead.

Once at the top spot, Everhart would do no wrong as he kept himself at the top spot all race long. The closest battles Everhart would see were when a yellow would come out and the field was bunched up for a restart. Even at this point he would regain his lead and drive away from the field. As he finished the night out, he would make his way through lapped traffic as he collected his 1st race win of 2012.

Steven Bowers Jr. continued his string of top 5’s with another runner-up finish, Tyler Schmidt had another solid run coming in third, 4th went to the points leader, Fuqua and rounding out the top 5 was Tim Karrick.

It would take 3 tries to get the White Line CDL Training B Mod feature underway on Saturday night, but when the race finally got going it turned out to be the most exciting race of the night.

Brian Murphy has spent the better part of the 2012 season searching for answers. He has had to sit out races due to engine problems, he has had to pull out of races due to mechanical issues and this season he has not found the good fortune that he has had in seasons past.

Saturday night it looked as if Murphy’s luck had changed. As the green flag flew he took to the lead. He would maintain at the top spot, through several yellow flags on the night. The former champ, would see his hard work at the front of the field erased each time the yellow would fly. In the late laps of the race, the current points leader, Ethan Isaacs, would make a bid for his 2nd win of the season. A late race yellow would produce one of the more memorable finishes of 2012.

Murphy would lead the field to the restart for the green, white checkered finish. As he would race into turn one, Isaacs began his assault on the top spot. Isaacs would go low and Murphy would run the middle groove on the track. At the white flag the two were side by side around the track. Isaacs appeared to have the upper hand as the two exited the 2nd turn. As they roared into turn 3 Murphy was the leader. As they both went through the final turn, Murphy would slide up the track, Isaacs had a good line on the bottom and it was going to be a drag race to the finish.

As the two came across the stripe it was Murphy by a matter of inches as he beat Isaacs by the margin of a front bumper. It was a finish the had the crowd on their feet and cheering.

Heath Murry had his best finish of the year coming in 3rd, Curtis Dreasher finished in the 4th spot and Dustin Thulin drove to a 5th place finish after having to start at the rear of the field.

If anyone has been watching the features in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock class over the past few weeks they would have noticed that Tyler Garst has been elevating his game. The young driver from Topeka has been finishing consistently in the top 5 week after week and he has been starting the features in the 5th row or worse! Most thought it would only be a matter of time before Garst would pick up a feature win.

The feature got under way on Saturday night with a familiar pair shooting it out at the front of the field. Randal Schiffelbein Jr. and Jesse Shotts had weaved their way through the competition to the front of the field by the end of the opening lap. Garst came with the pair as he sat in the 3rd spot.

Shotts took the top spot from Schiffelbein and became the leader. Schiffelbein would try to battle back at Shotts, but that’s when the light switch came on for Garst. Heading down the back straight Garst overhauled Schiffelbein for the 2nd spot and by turn 4 he was driving past Shotts for the lead. It was a lead that he never gave back. Garst would spend the remainder of the feature navigating lapped traffic to his 1st victory of 2012.

Shotts finished 2nd, 3rd went to Schiffelbein Jr., Darren Davenport finished in the top 5 again with a 4th place finish and Byron Glotzbach rounded out the top 5 in 5th.

Zach Henery gets his 4th feature win of 2012! Reed Bros. Racing Photos

On Saturday night there was one repeat winner that drove to victory at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway, Zach Henery. Henery would win the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock feature.

Henery didn’t just win the feature event, he dominated the event. It would take a few laps for Henery to work his way up to the top spot. Brett Heeter, the early leader, would be Henery’s toughest challenger on the night. Heeter would end up spinning in turn 1 and thus eliminated the battle at the top spot.

In the point position Henery drove away from the field. The young driver from Topeka has been getting faster and faster every week. It would be Henery’s 2nd straight feature win and 4th overall.

Terry Schmidt, the points leader, finished in the 2nd spot, Eric Weyer celebrated a strong run finishing in 3rd, 4th went to James King and 5th was Brett Heeter.

The racing continues next Saturday night at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway August 11! It will be the 17th race in the Super Saturday Showdown Series.
