Lucas Isaacs Wins Spectacular B Mod Feature

It was an exciting finish that went right down to the wire in the B Mod division, Lucas Isaacs #6 got there first. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Topeka, KS (Aug. 11) – Fans at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway were treated to one of the best races of the season Saturday night.

The White Line CDL Training B Mod Feature came down to the wire. A total of 5 cars were in the hunt for the win, but as we all know only 1 car can get a victory in any given feature event.

Lucas Isaacs leaped into the lead from his front row starting spot. He would hang on to it for most of the night. The youngster from Bonner Springs already has 2 wins to his credit in 2012 and Saturday night he was looking for the hat trick. It appeared as Isaacs would accomplish this goal easily, until Bryan Rigsby started to cut into Isaacs lead late in the race.

With 3 laps left, Rigsby decided to make his move.

The two leaders came upon lapped traffic heading into turn 3. Rigsby’s took the low line away from Isaacs going into turn 3, the two would touch working through the corner and then Isaacs would have to move up on the track. Both drivers would split the lapped car on the front straight and at the stripe it was a dead heat between them. As they got back to turn 1, Isaacs returned the favor and got underneath Rigsby. The two would still battle side by side as they came to the white flag.

At this point in time the party at the front of the field got a little bigger. Ethan Isaacs, Dustin Thulin and Terry Bivins all crashed the party at the front and were going to make one last bid for the win.

When the white flag came out Lucas Isaacs held a slight advantage at the line. Anyone who knows Rigsby might have been expecting a wreckers or checkers scenario as the went into the final lap. On the last lap, the two leaders went down the back stretch still side by side. In turn 3, Ethan Isaacs shot to the high side in hopes of a win, Rigsby was now in the middle and Lucas Isaacs pulled into the lead by a short margin in the final turn. As they exited turn 4, Rigsby would slide up the track and Lucas Isaacs would get his 3rd win by a slim margin.

Ethan Isaacs finished in very close 3rd, 4th went to Thulin and Bivins, who started the feature in the 20th spot, finished in 5th.

Saturday night was win #8 for Rookie Randal Schiffelbein Jr. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

In the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock division, Randal Schiffelbein regained his winning form as he powered to win #8 on the season. The rookie from Techumseh started on the pole position and from the beginning of the race he decided to put a strangle hold on the top spot and never give it up on Saturday night.

The points leader in the division, Schiffelbein, never saw a challenge for most of the race until a late race yellow would put up a green, white, checkered finish. Last week’s winner, Tyler Garst, had worked his way up into 2nd after starting the race in 7th. Would he be able to overtake the points leader in the final 3 laps?

It wouldn’t work out in Garsts favor. Schiffelbein would speed off to the advantage one more time and take the victory.

Garst finished in the runner-up spot, Byron Glotzbach celebrated his highest finish of the season in 3rd, 4th went to Lafe Garst and Darren Davenport came home in 5th.

Cody Agler #77 battles with Darron Fuqua #87 early in the Modified feature. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Cody Agler got the monkey off his back on Saturday night in the Washburn Tech Modified feature. Setup issues, bad luck and lapped traffic have gotten into Agler’s way over the past month and a half of the season. Coming into the night Agler had 2 wins on the season and was in need of 3.

Starting on the front row, Agler knew if he could get off to a good start that he would have just as good shot as anyone else to take home the top honor on the night. When the green flag dropped it was apparent that Agler was ready to go. Early in the race he would hit all of his marks and make consistent fast laps that put his Skyrocket chassis into a comfortable lead.

In the 2nd spot most of the night was the points leader, Darron Fuqua. Fuqua would get a couple of shots at Agler as a few yellow flags would bunch up the field on the restarts. Fuqua would give him a challenge on every restart, but on this night Agler was the best on the Speedway.

Agler would take home win 3 on the season. The win was a shot in arm that Agler and his team had been searching for.

Fuqua drove to the runner-up finish, last week’s feature winner, Josh Everhart, finished in 3rd, Jimmy Hernandez was the hard charger of the night going from 18th to 4th and Steven Bowers Jr. secured another top 5 finish in 5th.

In 2012 no other driver has been more successful than Terry Schmidt. Schmidt has dominated the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock class and after Saturday night that trend continued for yet another week.

Schmidt pulled in win #11 on the season Saturday night. He started on the front row and that is the only advantage that he would need. He jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag and from there raced his way to another victory. If Schmidt could win out the rest of the season, he still has a chance to tie Zach Henery for the most feature wins in a season 16.

The race from 2nd on back was a good one. Steve Herrick, Eric Weyer and Frank Jaynes sliced and diced their way’s up and down the track.

As the checkered flag came out Weyer would find himself in 2nd, Herrick finished in 3rd, 4th went to Brett Heeter and Jaynes continued his run of top 5’s in 2012 finishing in 5th.
