Topeka, KS. – Opening weekend went off without a hitch this past Saturday night at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway. This Saturday night, April 13th, the competitors of the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown will do battle for the 2nd time this season starting at 7 p.m.

Last weeks event packed a lot of excitement and close racing.

In the Washburn Tech Modified division it was Dalton Kirk getting his 1st career win. The youngster from Gardner, KS is no stranger to victory lane. It was in 2011 that he picked up the season championship in the B Mod division. Kirk’s win Saturday night could jump start his 2013 season with confidence.

Dave Samuels, another former track champion, pulled off his 1st career win last week in the White Line CDL Training B Mod class. Samuels had to keep pace with the early leader, Jake Richards, before making a daring pass in the last corner on the last lap of the feature. Samuels has spent the last year figuring out how to get the most out of his hot rod and that might mean trouble for the rest of the class.

The Ferrellgas Stock Car division gave the fans a lot of door to door action during their feature. Last year’s track champion, Terry Schmidt, had to hold off charges from Steve Herrick, Zach Henery and a few others before getting the opening night win. Schmidt debuted a new car and couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.

Darren Davenport thought he was going to win on opening night for the 2nd straight year in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock feature. Unfortunately, he forgot about Tyler Garst. Garst, a student at Washburn University, kept an even pace with Davenport and late in the race saw his opportunity and drove off to the win.

Each of the weekly classes provided a great show on opening night at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway. A total of 73 cars were on hand to compete. Fans should look for more cars and even better racing as the 2013 season continues.

Spectator gates will open up at 5 p.m., hot laps are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:00 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12.00, kids 4 through 12 are $6.00 and children 3 and under are free at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway.
