Mother’s Day Diamond Dig Ready To Kickstart New Streak At HPT

Mother's in attendance could have the opportunity to win a diamond!

Mother’s in attendance could have the opportunity to win a diamond!

Topeka, KS – Edwin Moses blasted his way to 122 consecutive wins in the 400 meter hurdles, in NASCAR Jeff Gordon has started 699 consecutive races and the grand daddy of all streaks had to be Jahangir Khan’s 555 consecutive squash wins! A long standing streak was broken 2 weeks ago as BriggsAuto.Com Speedway suffered it’s first rain out after 47 straight races. A new streak began at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway last weekend as Mother Nature made it 2 consecutive rain outs!

Saturday night, May 11, BriggsAuto.Com Speedway will be looking to start another consecutive race streak at 7 p.m. when the drivers of the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown get ready for their 4th race of the season.

Another big plus for the weekend is the fact that Sunday is Mother’s Day! The fine folks at Heartland Park haven’t forgotten about how important moms are to the sport of racing and they have, once again, planned a special promotion.

The Diamond House and BriggsAuto.Com Speedway are teaming up for the Mother’s Day Diamond Dig.

A select number of moms will have a chance to dig out a prize during intermission. The grand prize this year is a 10 ctw Mother’s Ring provided by the Diamond House. The Diamond House is a locally owned and operated jewelry store located at 1801 SW Gage Blvd in Topeka and they have been a longtime supporter of the local racing scene and Heartland Park Topeka.

If the great racing wasn’t enough to motivate you to attend this week’s race, this promotion should!

Saturday’s event will be capped off by the racing of the Casey’s General Store Pure Stocks, White Line CDL Training B Mods, Ferrellgas Stock Cars and the Washburn Tech Modifieds.

Last time out….

In the Washburn Tech Modified division Darron Fuqua drove to his 2nd consecutive win during the 2013 season. The Mayetta driver made it look easy as he rocketed to the win running away from the competition. After missing opening night, the defending champion has climbed to 4th in the standings and is just 9 points back of the current leader, Kerry Davis. During the feature last week several drivers were hindered by bad luck. After 2 straight wins Fuqua now has the ‘bulls-eye’ looming a little larger on his number #87 this week. It should be a closer race on Saturday night.

For the first time this season someone other than Terry Schmidt drove into victory lane in the Ferrell Gas Stock Car class. Steve Herrick put all the right moves together and drove to his 1st win of the season. Early in the night Herrick’s car was a little off. During the intermission break his pit crew made a few adjustments that fit Herrick’s driving style and it showed on the track. Iowa driver, Brad Deery, made it close in the end, but Herrick was just too strong. Even though Schmidt didn’t win last week, he finished in the top 5 and maintained his early season points lead in the division.

A whopping total of 35 White Line CDL Training B Mod drivers showed up to race last Saturday night. That many drivers in one class means one thing, competition. Just to make the main event was a victory in itself. In the end Dave Samuels drove to his 2nd win in 3 races this season. Unlike his victory on opening night, Samuels had to wonder what was going on behind him all night long. Samuels would wire the field as he would lead from start to finish during the feature. In the early season points race Jake Richards, Bryan Rigsby and Samuels stand on top of the chart.

Tyler Garst is the hottest driver this season in the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown. This past week Garst raced his way to a 3rd straight victory. In 2013 the young man is undefeated! His actual consecutive win streak is at 4 dating back to the last race of the season in 2012. Drivers in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock division are getting better each and every week. Darrin Christy finished 2nd for the second consecutive week and some new drivers have been rumored to be debuting this week. As Garst’s winning streak continues, he currently sits on top of the point standings with Darren Davenport and AJ Christian right behind him.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m., hot laps will start at 6:15 p.m. and the first race will go green at 7:00 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12.00, kids 4 through 12 are $6.00 and children 3 and under are free at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway.
