MAYETTA, KS. –Race fans were once again enamored with the racing surface preparation at Thunder Hill Speedway. Three and Four wide racing was the norm throughout all of the classes last night. Every driver I spoke with after the event was amazed at the surface and the ability to use multiple grooves in their march to the front.

Last weeks winner Wade Heller once again showed the way to victory lane for the Casey’s General Store IMCA Sport Compacts followed by a hotly contested battle for second place by the remaining top four finishing cars of Alex Boyden, Brandon Lobdell and Dan Canady.

The Heart break of the night award has to go To Falun Kansas’s own Kelly Pihl in the Kansas National Guard IMCA Hobby Stocks. After a long week of problem solving and repairs to his 5k racecar Kelly led from the drop of the green flag. He held onto that position for eleven of the twelve laps. As he was leading the field to the white flag he drove in to the turn just a little too deep and spun all by himself, handing the lead to and eventual checkered finish to Brian Stich. Behind Stich in the top four were, Jacob Crowell, Mallory Stiffler, and Joshua Haid.

The Belleveille Motor Sports IMCA Northern Sportmods once again had the fans on the edge of their seats, or should I say on their feet through the fifteen laps of the event. This was a hotly contested battle between Dusty Leonard the eventual winner and Kyle Olberding in second. Olberding used every available piece of real estate trying to overtake Leonard, however, he could not make the pass stick. The top four were Dusty Leonard, Kyle Olberding, Tyler Frye, and Brandon Mitchell.

As usual the Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock Cars put on one of the best performances of the evening. Fifteen Laps around the four tenths of a mile that make up Thunder Hill Speedway doesn’t seem enough for these cars, and last night’s race was no exception. With Laps winding down Mike Nichols made a run on Matt Haid from his third row inside starting position. He used every inch of that racetrack and tried several different lines in an attempt to get around Matt. They run door to door for several laps before he is able to make the pass stick. As the checkered flag flew, Nichols got the win followed closely by Matt Haid, Brian Labonte and Jim Powell Jr.

The BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds saw Allen Halderman take the lead early on. Again using all the grooves available to him to stay at the point, but Jesse Sobbing had other things on his mind. That’s right Jesse Sobbing showed up at Thunder Hill Speedway last night with his GM Performance 604 crate engine and put on a driving school second to no other. Sobbing started fifth row outside and put on a spectacular show that had the crowd on their feet until the checkered flag flew on the night’s final feature. Sobbing gets the win followed by Allen Halderman, Brendon Gemmil and Danny Holt.

Racing resumes next Saturday night at Thunder Speedway for the BSB Manufacturing Night at the races, where all five classes of IMCA race cars will be putting on the best Saturday night racing show in Northeast Kansas. For complete results, visit www.racethunderhillspeedway.com
