by Dusty Wiegert – SALINA, Kan. — Same story, different week at the Salina Speedway on Friday August 2nd as mother nature once again made her plans known during the race program.

Before her arrival, however, two drivers captured victory in the Street Stock division racing in double features on Landstar Night at the Races.

In the first event of the night, the make-up feature from July 19th, Duane Toyne made quick work of the field and cruised to another feature win on the season.

Later in the evening the regular part of the program was ran for the Street Stocks with Chad Thrush leading a majority of the race, only to lose power steering and fade late. Scott Miller took over in his first visit to the Speedway and was able to hold off a hard charging Scot Granzella for the victory. Granzella was second with Toyne third and Steenson fourth. Keith Riley, Arnold Williams, and Curtis Woods won the heat races.

GW Fuller kicked off the feature events with a victory in the IMCA Hobby Stock division by easily out pacing Mark Normandin. Normandin was second with Colton Pfeifer third and Aaron McBride fourth. Normandin and McBride won the heat races.

Mod Lite driver Brandon Gray looked to be back on track in the division after being plagued by bad luck so far on the season. That changed while he was leading the feature with a broken rear end, once again relegating him to the pits. From there Chris Unruh was able to hold off Justin Kinderknecht to take the victory with Kinderknecht second, Bam Ayers third, and Arizona driver Michael Martin fourth. Ryan Secrest and Ayers won the heat races.

The IMCA Modifieds took to the track as mother nature began kicking in. Four laps were completed before a caution slowed the action with Shannon Johnson leading. On the ensuing restart a sudden down pour caused nearly every car to make contact with the wall in turn one, resulting in a red flag, and eventually the end of the racing program. The IMCA Modifieds will make-up their feature event on August 16th.

The IMCA Northern SportMods also missed out on their feature event. It will be made-up next Friday August 9th.

Next Friday’s racing action will feature the Late Models back in action along with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, Mod Lites, and Mini Stocks. The make-up feature originally scheduled for the Late Models has been moved to August 23rd.
