Spring Nationals Coming To Lucas Oil Speedway This Weekend

mlraWheatland, MO (April 8, 2014) – Following a great opening weekend for the 26th straight year of racing, the Lucas Oil MLRA quickly jumps back into action this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri for the Fox 22 Spring Nationals Presented by RacingJunk.com. The two day race will award $2,000 to Friday night’s winner and $3,000 to Saturday’s victor.

Mt. Vernon, Iowa’s Chad Simpson, currently second in the series standings, is a two time winner of the April stop at Lucas Oil Speedway. He will be back this time looking to continue his strong start to the year and gain valuable track time prior to the 22nd Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100 over Memorial Day weekend.

“We struggled there for a long time,” commented Simpson on his initial outings at the Diamond of the Dirt Tracks. “However, following the first Show Me 100 they had there, we caught wind of some things the winner Ray Cook and runner up Don O’Neal were doing. Running the same brand of car at the time, that information really helped us and we geared our car that direction. It paid off with two wins over a three year stretch.”

However all bets are off for Simpson this time, as a switch to Rocket Chassis will provide an entirely new set of challenges. “The track is unique in that I drive it different than any other place we race,” Simpson shared. “It gets really slick, and once I made the switch in my approach we have been much better.”

Simpson has also begun working with young up and coming driver Spencer Diercks from Davenport, Iowa. The relationship resulted in an engine program switch to Tezar Racing Engines, which are known for exceptional performance out of their Ford based program.

“We’re going to have to throw away all of our notes and start over, but I bet we can get it pretty close,” continued Simpson. “We’re really excited about coming down, and the two day format works really well for us. The Diercks family’s help has been big for our team. We couldn’t do it without all of our partners. I’m hopeful we can knock down a win or two this weekend.”

NASCAR veteran and motorsports personality Ken Schrader will be there both nights competing in his USRA Modified. He will be part of the driver’s autograph session from 5:00-5:45 PM Saturday, prior to the start of the final night.

This will be the only chance for Super Late Models to compete at Lucas Oil Speedway prior to the 22nd Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100. Coupled with the two day format a large field of cars is expected. There will be a three hour practice session Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00 PM. Grandstand entry will be free, however there will be no concessions available. Pit passes for practice are $20.
