Stand Packer Night Provides Fun For Everyone At Salina Speedway

SalinaSpeedway (2)Salina, KS – For the first time this season at Salina Speedway it was Stand Packer Night! An appreciation night where most of the fans in attendance got in free for the evening. Not only did they get in free they got to see some great racing as 80 cars checked in to put on a show!

There have been 5 features this season for the AutoHouse Towing Mod Lite division. At this point in time it looks like 1 driver is standing head and shoulders above the competition, Danny Morrison Jr.

Morrison had won 3 of the 5 features before the night started and after the night was over he could add number 4 to the list.

Brian Davidson would score the early lead in the feature, but it was Morrison who was on the move. After a restart, for a lap 4 caution, Morrison moved to the point and dropped the hammer on the way to the win.

Justin Kinderknecht started 8th in the feature and finished 2nd, Ryan Ayers had a strong 3rd place finish, 4th went to Earl Kinderknecht and Chris Unruh rounded out the top 5.

AutoHouse Towing Mod Lite Heat Race Winners were Mike Zrubek and J. Kinderknecht.

The Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified Feature promised a lot of excitment on the night. Each and every week it’s anyone’s guess who will take home the hardware with the competition that is in play every night.

Brandon Blochlinger started on the front row for the feature. Blochlinger is a tough competitor and has won some races over the years. He took to the lead early in the feature and looked to be in command for his 1st win of 2014 at Salina Speedway.

Blochlinger hit his marks lap after lap. Behind him there was host of drivers slicing and dicing, hoping to get a shot at the leader before the checkered flag dropped.

One of those drivers was Mike Petersilie. Petersilie started 9th in the A Main, but found himself working his way to the front of the field. Before long he found his way into the runner-up spot. Not to be content with a 2nd, Petersilie wanted a win and he made his move with 2 laps to go. Petersilie would move around Blochlinger and take home his 1st win of the 2014 season in the Modified division.

Petersilie would become the 4th different Modified winner on the season.

Blochlinger held on for 2nd, Clay Sellard came in at the 3rd spot, 4th was Jesse Richter and Joe Clevland raced from 12th to 5th.

Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified Heat Race Winners were Brian Knoell, Blochlinger and Petersilie.

Earlier this week Chris Kratzer was looking on Facebook for a maid to clean his house. After Friday night he might want to list cleaning trophies as one of the maid’s duties.

Friday night Kratzer drove to his 2nd win of the season in the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model division.

Terry Malm was the early leader in this main event, but after a restart Kratzer would storm to the lead from his 3rd row outside starting position. Kratzer, who has been doing some testing with his Late Model, kept his car out in front and never looked back. The checkers would fall and everyone was still chasing him at the finish. As Kratzer pulled down the win he also moved into 2nd in the point standings and trails Delbert Smith by 7 points.

Delbert Smith, got caught up in an early caution, drove to a solid 2nd place finish, the ‘Popsicle’, Daniel Smith, finished in 3rd, 4th went to Scott Phillips and Brad Morris rounded out the top 5.

BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Heat Race Winners were Phillips and Kratzer.

The Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock division seems to be one of the most competitive and exciting divisions at Salina Speedway. Friday night was nothing out of the norm for the Hobby Stocks.

At the drop of the green flag it was a ‘pickem’ on who would win. Anyone starting in the top 10 had a real good chance and if you started behind the top 10 you still had a decent chance.

Jason Cleveland brought the field to the green and took the early lead. As the green dropped it looked like a jail break behind the leader, Cleveland.

Aaron McBride and Tommy Fose would get around Cleveland as the laps clicked off.

McBride had yet to win a feature event in 2014, but his luck was about to change. McBride would go to the checkers holding off Fose for the win.

Adam Armstrong would make a hard charge from 11th to 3rd. He forced a battle with Fose and took away the runner-up spot. Fose would come home in 3rd, but after his conduct after the race he would be disqualified from the event.

Travis Coop picked up one of his best finishes of the year in 4th and Tony Slothower rolled to a 5th place finish.

Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock Heat Race Winners were McBride, Fose and Armstrong.

The M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mods did not disappoint on the night. Each week this division has packed in some great racing action. Five different winners have been in victory lane and Friday night was another opportunity for a new winner.

Nate Ginest got out in front in the early part of the feature event and would hang on for his 2nd win of the season. Ginest was impressive as he started in the 7th spot and worked his way to the front and won going away.

The battle was a heated one for 2nd through 4th.

Points leader, Austin Carter, got sent to the rear for an early caution and he was having to drive through the entire field. Tyler Frye, Clay Money, Fred Traskowsky were all mixing it up at the front half of the field for most of the night. Drivers in this division seem to pass a lot of cars in competiton. There is always a good battle somewhere on the speedway when the Sport Mods are on the track, this night was no different and the fans loved the action.

In the end Frye would finish in the 2nd spot, Traskowsky won the battle for 3rd, 4th was Money and rounding out the top 5 was Carter.

M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mod Heat Race Winners were Tyler Post, Daniel Gottschalk and Carter.

Racing gets underway again next Friday night July 4th for the Annual Topless Challenge!! Hot laps at 7:15 p.m. and heat races shortly after that.

Adult admission is $10, with kids 15 & under FREE with paid adult. All seniors 55 and up are HALF PRICE with ID. All active & retired military are FREE with appropriate ID as well! Pit passes are $25.
