1/2 Way Point Of The Championship Season Looms Ahead For Salina Speedway

SalinaSpeedway (2)Salina, KS – How do you follow up a big event like the 4th Annual Topless Challenge? You come right back with your bread and butter! Weekly racing is back to normal this Friday night, July 11, at Salina Speedway.

The big money and the topless cars will be gone and now it’s time to get back to the grind

of the weekly racing series. Points Championship races are tightening up, racers that haven’t been into victory lane yet are itching for a win and the unknown is still lurking in the shadows.

Friday night’s lineup card will see the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models, M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Coors Light Street Stocks, Budweiser Hobby Stocks and the Chamucos Night Club Mini Stocks. It’s shaping up to be another great one.

All year long in the 2014 Salina Speedway has put a good product on the table, due to a large talent pool of extraordinary drivers!

Dustin Huehl added some excitement to the Late Model division last week. So far the 2014 season has been dominated by multiple feature winners Delbert Smith, Darrick Klima & Chris Kratzer. Last week Huehl became the 4th different driver to put his hot rod into victory lane. It added a new face to the band of characters that make up this division. There will still be a bunch of upstarts looking to make waves but so far it’s been the veterans shinning bright! Only 11 points separate the top 4 drivers in the Late Models. Last year’s champ, Delbert Smith, still finds himself on top of the standings.

Tyler Frye flexed his muscle late in the race last Friday night picking off his 2nd win of the season. The Sport Mod division is ultra competitive. This week look for it to go up another level as drivers will be pressing a little harder to get into victory lane. After Frye’s win last week there is a tie on top of the point standings between Austin Carter and Frye. Clay Money is in 3rd place only 1 point out of first and Nate Ginest is in 4th 6 points out of the lead.

In the Street Stock division one driver is putting on a dominating performance, Scott Miller. Miller has logged 4 wins on the season, including the last 3 straight. Last Friday night Miller took control and held it from start to finish. Drivers in this class will have to step up to the plate if they want to taste some of the success that Miller has been having. Even though Miller has 4 wins it’s Tony Steenson hanging on to the points lead over Bob Arnold by just 2 points.

The Hobby Stocks had the week off last week, so you can bet your bottom dollar that they will be out for blood this week! Excitement in this class is an understatement. Some of the best racing action comes out of this class. Here you will see door-to-door, wheel-to-wheel action and it’s a pick em on who might win. Everyone in this division is capable of a win. A total of 5 different winners have showed up in victory lane and the trend looks to see more new faces in the coming weeks. Mike Traskowsky holds on to the points lead and there is an angry mob trying to run him down.

The Mini Stocks have been off for over 2 weeks so they have really got to be looking forward to racing again Friday night. Russell Roberg has been into the winner’s circle the most out of any driver in the division, but Stacey Huffman has the points lead. Wild action on and off the track have made he Mini Stocks a fan favorite in 2014.

Start making your plans for Friday night, July 11th! Racing action gets underway with Hot laps at 7:15 p.m. and heat races shortly after that.

Adult admission is $10, with kids 15 & under FREE with paid adult. All seniors 55 and up are HALF PRICE with ID. All active & retired military are FREE with appropriate ID as well! Pit passes are $25.
