#3 Significant At Salina Speedway Friday Night!

SalinaSpeedway (2)Salina, KS – Don’t look now, but there is a common theme with this week’s feature winners at Salina Speedway! It has to do with the #3 and no this isn’t Sesame Street.

Chris Kratzer, the RocketMan, posted his 3rd win of the season in the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models on Friday night and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Delbert Smith, who came in with the points lead, was plagued with problems on the night and suffered a 7th place finish. Darrick Klima, who is also in the top 3 in points, got a flat on the first lap and had to go to the rear. Kratzer was ready to pounce!

From the start of the A Main it was all Kratzer. He would shoot out into the lead. Kratzer would lead every lap on the way to his 3rd win of the season. The win would move him into 2nd place in the point standings just 4 points behind the leader Delbert Smith.

Daniel Smith marched from 7th to 2nd, 3rd went to Justin Kinderknecht, 4th was Kelly Dunn and Klima came back up through the field to finish 5th.

BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Heat Race Winner was Kratzer.

An enormous amount of Chamucos Night Club Mini Stocks were on hand to compete Friday night. A total of 16 drivers were there to race after all the entries were tallied up.

In the end it was a familiar Salina Speedway competitor that was standing tall in victory lane, Russell Roberg.

Roberg started outside the front row for the Mini Stock main event. Two wins already to Roberg’s resume, it would be tough to beat the youngster from the front row. At the drop of the green flag Roberg got the advantage. At the point he would show why he is one of the best Mini Stock drivers in the area. Roberg would lead every lap from flag to flag on his way to win #3 of the season.

Stacey Huffman had a solid run going from 9th to 2nd in the main, Elliot May started on the pole position but would settle for 3rd, 4th was Amber Bird and rounding out the top 5 was John McNabb.

Chamuos Night Club Mini Stock Heat Race Winners were Roberg and Huffman.

The theme of the night continued with the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks too.

It was another exciting event for the Hobby Stocks.

Nathan Munhall and Clayton Shroer would bring them to the start of this shootout. Munhall would grab the early advantage, but the movers and the shakers were working their way to the front of the field too.

Tommy Shomaker would be the next driver to take over the front spot, but there were still more drivers coming to the front and it was only a matter of time. One of those drivers was Mike Traskowksy.

Traskowsky, who entered the night with 2 wins, started in the 10th spot. Lap after lap he was moving his hot rod forward. Traskowsky, the current points leader, would not be denied. He would drive by Shumaker and the rest of the competition to go on and collect win #3 on the season.

Aaron McBride had a solid run finishing in 2nd, 3rd went to Tony Slothower, Shomaker would hold on to 4th and Tommy Fose would finish in the top 5 once again.

Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock Heat Race Winners were Traskowsky and Travis Coop.

Two classes that just couldn’t get with the theme of #3 on Friday night still provided some excitement of their own.

Scott Miller has been the class of the Coors Light Street Stock division in 2014. Heading into Friday night’s event Miller had posted 3 straight wins. After Friday night you can chalk up #5 on the season for this hot shoe. The win makes him the winning est driver at Salina Speedway so far for 2014.

Bob Arnold took out to the lead on the start, but a caution on lap 3 would spell trouble for Arnold. As the race went back to green Miller took the lead and wouldn’t look back the rest of the way. Miller powered to another feature race win.

Starting 7th and finishing 2nd would be Scott Granzella, Tony Steenson finished 3rd, Bob Arnold came in 4th and Duane Toyne capped a 5th place run.

Coors Light Street Stock Heat Race Winner was Miller.

One of the best races of the night was M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mod Feature.

Daniel Gottschalk had to start outside of row number 5 for Friday night’s feature event. Several top notch competitors were starting in front of him and last week’s winner, Tyler Frye, would start in the row behind him. Gottschalk knew he had some work to do. He was up for the task.

Gottschalk picked his competition off one by one as he got to the front of the field. At the front of the field he still had Tyler Frye chasing him. Frye followed him up through the field.

It was Gottschalk’s night as he kept it out front. He would take the checkered flag for his 2nd win of the season.

The battle from 2nd through 5th position was stellar. Drivers were all over the place trying to make moves, some were just trying to hang on to their spots.

In the end, Tyler Frye would finish 2nd, 3rd went to Nate Ginest, 4th went to Austin Carter and Clay Money would be the 5th place finisher. An amazing stat is that none of the top 5 drivers started in the top 3 rows. Every one of them started 4th row or further back in the A Main.

M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mod Heat Race Winners were Ginest and Jeff Olson.
