Salina, KS – Another wild night of racing went into the books at Salina Speedway and some drivers are starting to distance themselves from the competition.

In the M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mods Daniel Gottschalk has been on a roll. Currently Gottschalk sits 4th in point standings but if it weren’t for a slow start on the season he might be a little closer to the leaders. In a race for the championship Gottschalk is doing everything in his power to get it.

Due to the points system in determining the feature lineup, Gottschalk started 10th in the big race.

Coming into the night Gottschalk had pulled down 2 of the last 3 wins and by having to come through the field it’s made him a patient driver. That characteristic would help him out Friday night.

Brenden Damon would grab the early lead in the feature. As the race wore on the leader would encounter lapped traffic it would be the perfect time for Gottschalk to make his move. In lapped traffic Gottschalk took the lead and never looked back on the way to picking up the feature win.

The win was his 4th of the season (the most in the class) and it was now his 3rd win in 4 weeks.

Austin Carter would continue his points lead as he came home in the runner-up spot, Tyler Frye finished in 3rd, 4th went to Kurtis Pihl and Damon would hang on for a 5th place finish.

M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mod Heat Race Winners were Jeff Olson & Nate Ginest.

In the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock Feature it was a case of what you saw might be different than what you know.

Fans watched the feature event take off on the night. Jason Cleveland raced out to the early lead but would bring out the caution spinning in turn 2. As the race fired back up it was Aaron McBride taking over the top spot. He would have to fight for the win by holding off the point leader, Mike Traskowsky. The checkered flag dropped and McBride was the first driver to the checkers.

As most race tracks in America, Salina Speedway, conducts a post race tech inspection. This means that even if you win a race on the track you aren’t declared the winner until you get through the final inspection.

Aaron McBride, unfortunately, did not make it through the tech inspection and was disqualified.

Mike Traskowsky would inherit the win. It would be his 5th win on the season and it helped him expand his points lead.

Tommy Shomaker finished in the 2nd spot, 3rd win to Pete Beaumont, 4th was Kelly Pihl and Terry Blessing rounded out the top 5.

Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock Heat Race Winners were McBride and Traskowksy.

It was just a few weeks ago when Danny Morrison Jr.’s dream season came to a bump in the road as Justin Kinderknecht won the AutoHouse Towing Mod Lite A Main.

If many fans thought that this would be the end to Morrison’s strong season, they found out their answer last night.

Chris Unruh got out front first. Brian Davidson would become the next leader and the race continued on until a red flag was thrown for Trey Morgan, who got upside down on the speedway. Morgan would be ok and the race would continue.

Davidson would lead the field back to action and Morrison was moving his way through the field. Starting 9th Morrison made all the right moves and before long he found himself right behind the leader. As he has done many times this season, Morrison jetted to the lead and the win. It would be his 6th Mod Lite Feature win on the season.

Davidson would hang on for 2nd, Justin Kinderknecht would finish in the 3rd position, Tyler Bradshaw and Travis Govern would round out the top 5 in 4th and 5th respectively.

AutoHouse Towing Mod Lite Heat Race Winners were Mike Zrubek and Davidson.

The Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified Feature looked familiar on Friday night.

Clay Sellard started in the 2nd row of the A Main and wasted no time getting the upper hand on his competition.

Sellard, the winner on opening night, displayed a dominating performance on Friday night. The only thing that would slow Sellard down on this night were yellow flags. Every time the yellows would come out Sellard would take command of the show. Sellard went on to his 3rd win of the season.

The race within the race also changed in the Modified Points standings. Corey Lagroon would be the new points leader after Friday night. Lagroon would take the points lead with a 2nd place finish, Danny Morrison Jr. finished 3rd, 4th was Brian Knoell and Joe Cleveland finished out the night in 5th.

Belleville Motor Sports Heat Race Winners were Sellard and Randy Wilson.

The BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model division is seeing a familiar face each week show why he has been one of the best Late Model drivers in the Midwest during his career. Delbert Smith won the championship a year ago and he is looking strong to repeat that feat again in 2014.

Delbert started on the pole position for the feature event. He took to the lead and put his hot rod on cruise control.

Fans would probably think that Delbert cruised to his 4th win of the season and 2nd straight, but they would be wrong.

Delber’s son, Daniel Smith, charged from 5th to 2nd in the main event and would give his dad everything he would want and more. Daniel tried to work his way around Delbert, but Delbert would thwart every advance by the younger Smith.

Daniel would score another runner-up finish, a strong battle went on between Darrick Klima and Chris Kratzer before Klima would secure 3rd and Kratzer 4th and rounding out the top 5 was Jill Roberg.

BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Heat Race Winners were Delbert Smith and Kratzer.

Racing action will be center stage again next Friday night, Aug. 8th at Salina Speedway.

Racing action gets underway with Hot laps at 7:15 p.m. and heat races shortly after that.
