HUMBOLDT, Kan.)-Rodney Sanders picked up where he left off nearly five months ago at the Humboldt Speedway and captured his 20th United States Modified Touring Series victory of the season Friday night.

The first win of the 2014 campaign for the 24-year-old from Happy, Texas, came in the preliminary feature of King of America IV on March 28, and he followed that up the next night with a $10,000 triumph in the 100-lap finale.

Friday night was his third straight win at ‘The Hummer’ and brought his USMTS career wins total to 38 as he pocketed $3,000 for the third time in the first five races of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup.

From the outside of the front row, Sanders led all 40 laps but a couple of late-race cautions kept the field within striking distance. The final restart with three laps to go saw Sanders sail away from the pack while Cade Dillard bested Darron Fuqua in a back-and-forth battle for the runner-up paycheck.

It was a career-best night for both USMTS Rookie of the Year contenders.

Continuing to be a model of consistency, Zack VanderBeek raced from ninth on the 24-car starting grid to a solid fourth-place finish to keep his title hopes alive.

Polesitter Dereck Ramirez held on for fifth while Jesse Stovall, Johnny Scott, Austin Siebert, John Allen and Terry Schultz rounded out the top 10.

In the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup points standings, Sanders extended his advantage to 47 points (542 to 496) over VanderBeek, who leap-frogged Stormy Scott (470) after he failed to finish the main event. Johnny Scott (449), Ramirez (438), Kelly Shryock (435), Daniel Hilsabeck (433), Joe Duvall (418), Rick Beebe (359) and Jake Gallardo (355) complete the top 10.

Saturday will find the tireless USMTS touring titans at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the 5th Annual Lucas Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout.

“This is one race that Lucas Oil Speedway fans circle on the calendar each year as the top modified drivers in the country make their annual pilgrimage to Lucas Oil Speedway,” said the track’s general manager Dan Robinson.

Lucas Oil Speedway will grant two track provisionals for the feature event. Provisional spots will be awarded to the two drivers not making the show who are the highest in current Lucas Oil Speedway USRA Modified points.

USRA B-Mods ($500 to win) and Factory Stocks will also be tackling the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” along with the Battle of the Badges which showcases Missouri’s finest law enforcement officers racing to raise money for charity.

Be sure to stop by the Casey’s General Store location in Wheatland before and after the races for all your supplies and needs, and remember to get your $2-off admission coupon. Kelly Shryock and his #3 Snickers Modified will meet and greet fans at the Casey’s in Wheatland from 11:30 to 1:30.

Coupons are also available at Casey’s stores in Bolivar, Hermitage, Osceola and Weaubleau on race day. Visit www.caseys.com to find the location nearest you.

The Lucas Oil Speedway is located at Highways 83 and 54 in Wheatland, Mo. A campground with shower and bathroom facilities is also available. With its entrance located just outside the pit gate, this sprawling scenic camping facility will continue to enhance the racing experience. Visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com for more information and detailed directions. The track hotline is 417-282-5984.

The quadrupleheader weekend wraps up at the West Siloam Speedway near Colcord, Okla., on Sunday with gates opening at 6 p.m. and hot laps at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. USRA B-Mods, PSRA Pure Stocks and Grand Nationals will also share the spotlight.
