Mayetta, KS – Thunder Hill Speedway’s 2014 point season came to an end last Saturday night. This Friday and Saturday night, Sept. 19th & 20th, the good folks of Thunder Hill Speedway will host their signature event; Thunder On The Hill!

Big money and great racing will be on tap in Mayetta, KS this weekend. The BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds will be running for $2,000 to win each night and the race pays $200 just to start the main event. The Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock Cars will be shooting for $700 to win each night, racers in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern Sport Mods will also be gunning for $700 and the Bad Boyz Bail Bonds IMCA Hobby Stocks will get it on for $400 to win each night.

This formula of big money and open weekend is a recipe for success. Last year, and years past, several racers have come from far and wide to race with the best of the best in IMCA racing. Last season’s event was a strong one, fans got to see every kind of racing they wanted to see. Races went down to the last lap, races were won in dominating fashion and there was a ton of wheel-to-wheel, door-to-door action all over the speedway.

Each racer has a goal of ending up in Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane one night, if not both.

Last season in the Modified Features former IMCA National Champion, Jordan Grabouski, and Brian Mullen took home the top honors.

Saturday night’s feature watched Grabouski start outside of row number 2 and shot to the lead. In the end he held off Scott Drake and Chris Abelson for the win. Competition on this night was at an all time high. Just making the feature was a feat in itself. A total of 7 Thunder Hill Speedway regulars made the A Main out of 27 spots.

Sunday’s feature was a different story as Brian Mullen started outside of row number 5 and put a march on to the front of the pack. Gaining the lead late in the event Mullen would hold of Scott Drake and Chris Ableson (yes the same 2nd and 3rd place racers from Saturday night) to take home the big money and the win!

IMCA Modified racing has been nothing less than spectacular this season at Thunder Hill Speedway. This should set the tone for what both night’s of racing will be like in this division. Past National Champions, track champions and many feature winners will be lining up to take part in this big time event.

Jordan Grabouski pulled off a rare feat last season at the Thunder On The Hill when he won 2 features on the same night. Not only did he win in the Modified class, Grabouski also pulled off the win in the Stock Car Feature. Grabo started 9th in the Stock Car A Main and he used his knowledge and experience to race his way to the front of the field. At the front there was no stopping him on the Saturday night portion of the show.

Sunday’s race saw another former IMCA National Champion, Mike Nichols, take the win. Nichols has notched many wins at Thunder Hill Speedway, so it shouldn’t have surprised anyone to watch him run away with the victory. Grabo, Jason Davis and Perry Misner made it tough for Nichols but in the end he was too strong.

Nichols has made it evident that he will be back again this weekend looking for the same type of results.

Tyler Frye was the main man on Saturday night in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod A Main. Frye outraced Curtis Dreasher, Daniel Gottschalk and Dusty Leonard to the stripe for the win. It was Sunday night’s feature that had the fans jumping with excitement.

Shawn Harker, Frye and Bryan Rigsby put on one of the most exciting races ever at Thunder Hill Speedway. On a dry slick race surface Harker appeared to have the advantage during the final laps. Rigsby, committed to the bottom of the speedway, kept his plan of attack and on the last lap was able to get by Harker for the win. Frye was also coming on strong late in the race came up just short as he was right behind Rigsby crossing the stripe.

Fans applauded wildly for the awesome display of racing action.

In the IMCA Hobby Stock division Kent Husted and Cody Nielsen were the winners on consecutive nights last season. Several Hobby Stock competitors from all over showed up to battle it out. This division should provide for some of the same great action again this year.

Fans should be waiting in line Friday night for this event to open up. Racers from all over will be getting ready for this big money event and fans will not want to say that they missed this one.

A practice is scheduled for Thursday night, Sept. 18th, 2014. Practice will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. and it will be $15.00 to practice.

General admission for adults is just $15.00 for each night of racing, kids 12 and under are free. Coolers (with canned beer only) can be brought in for $10.
