NIGHT NUMBER 2 UP FOR LAKESIDE SPEEDWAY

Kansas City, KS - Opening night at Lakeside Speedway has come and gone. There were winners and there were the ones that didn't win. Some of the questions that needed to be answered became a little more clear after last Friday night. Now it's time to do them all over again this week as it's Creative Concrete Night At The Races!

In the Modified division it looked as if Tim Karrick would atone early this year for a rough 2009. Karrick looked fast in winning his heat race and appeared to be on the way to a feature win. Looks sometime can be deceiving. Karrick would suffer mechanical failure late in the race and end up in the turn 4 wall.

Tom Charles was battling with Karrick when he had his misfortune. Getting this break seemed to be the only thing that Charles would need gaining his 1st feature win of the season. In the tech area after the race, Charles was visibly excited and said that he would find himself in victory lane more this upcoming season.

There were several drivers that looked good last Friday night. With no practice, it seemed to be a wait and see attitude with most drivers on what to expect once they hit the track. Runner-up, Nic Bidinger, had a whale of a run in the last 5 laps of the feature. The youngster, from Perry, Ks, moved his way up into the 2nd spot. John O'neal Jr. was another driver that posted a solid race. New sponsorship and a new car just might be the thing to get him going in the right direction.

In the Grand National division it was two former champions waging battle to the finish. Three time Grand National Champion, Gene Claxton, held off a hard charging Tim Billings.

Claxton is returning to the Grand Nationals after a hiatus. The vehicle of choice for Claxton is one of the I-35/Lakeside Speedway Border War cars, owned by Mike Johnson (his other car is being driven by Chad (Chubzilla) Shaw. It looked like Claxton has not lost his form in the class.

What shouldn't be overlooked was the fact that Tim Billings was putting pressure on Claxton until the finish, Tim Billings had problems and had to pull off, also suffering problems was last years champion Chad Clancy and 4 time feature winner from last year, Brad Dibben, had problems all night long. Plain and simple this class could be very entertaining in 2010! A host of drivers are capable of winning night in and night out.

Everyone still had that question in their minds heading into Friday night. What is the Factory Stock class going to be like? Will the I-35 cars dominate the Lakeside cars? After watching the feature I would say after week number 1 the answer is, NO!

Jason Ryun put an impressive run together last Friday. Ryun put his new #08 numbered Factory Stock to the point and put the hammer down the rest of the way.

Just like in the Grand National class the Factory Stocks have had a lot of people upgrade their programs over the winter and they are showing it early out on the track. Opening night jitters and bugs hit some teams, so look for more action out of this class this week.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7:00 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $12.00, kids 8 to 14 are $6.00 and children 7 and under are always free!
